Yes! I like plantains cut into chunks and fried with a little sesame oil, or as fritters. I also love the little midget bananas, and the other night we had Philippine bananas caramelized with brown sugar. Those I got from a Philippine market, the others I got at the grocery store nearest to me, which is a VONS. Health food stores tend to carry a good variety.

I love plantains: Indians spice them up and pan fry them or use then in currys and sabjis.

Here's a great recipe...

Kerala Plantain Curry:

Ingredients

3 medium size plantains, peeled and diced
1 small onion, finely chopped
2 cloves garlic, finely minced
1 inch piece of ginger, peeled and minced
¼ tsp mustard seeds
½ tsp cumin seeds
1 tbsp urad daal
2-3 fresh green chillies (cut lengthwise)
a few curry leaves
a small pinch hing (asofetida)
¼ tsp turmeric
½ tsp ground cumin
½ tsp ground coriander
½ tsp garam masala
¼ tsp red chili powder
2 cups coconut milk
3 tsp cooking oil
½ tsp salt (to taste)
¼ cup freshly grated coconut
cilantro leaves, finely chopped for garnish

Method :

Heat 3 tsp of oil in a pan and add the mustard seeds. When they crackle then add the cumin seeds, hing, urad daal and the curry leaves. Stir fry for 1-2 minutes and add the onions, garlic and ginger. Stir fry until slightly browned and then add the turmeric, ground cumin, ground coriander, garam masala, rec chili powder, fresh chilies and the diced plantain pieces. Add salt and the coconut milk, cover and cook on medium low heat for 8-10 minutes.

Garnish with freshly grated coconut and cilantro leaves. Tastes great with fragrant basmati rice or hot rotis!

Plátano morado. That´s purple banana, it tastes like banana and strawberry. It´s a little bit more expensive than the regular banana (Tabasco). We can get it here in Mexico but I don´t know about other countries. There are also mini bananas called plátano dominico, it tastes a little bit sweeter and starchier.

take plantains and boil them in water for about 8 minutes or until they are tender then smash them like a really thick tortilla (about 1/4 inch thick) and deep fry them until golden brown...top them with either salt or olive oil mixed with fresh minced garlic...they are called tostones and they are delicious
