Yes, we use k12.
We both find it quite boring really.
Mostly it is really easy for him.
None of it is set to his current interest.
That is why we need to make it fun.

He really is interested and has studied in depth, the human body, reptiles, night creatures and the conquistadors.

In math he loves working with shapes, but it is still too easy for him.

However his maturity is not ready for 5th grade by any means. I do find this to be a great time to teach him shortcuts to math. Also we are doing the excercises at the beginning of the dictionary.

We currently have spell offs with our whole family.
We do speed math.
We have all the good board games.

Best of all he has an extensive library collection. He has read hundreds of books on many subjects and at all levels.
He use to read the bible to us on car trips. Now he would rather read comics.
He also likes to write comics.

GAMES...one of my favorite topics.

I am known as The Game Lady as I have created over 1000 homemade educational games while teaching my children at home since 1984 and teaching some in the classroom. I am currently working on preschool things as I am now working with my young grandsons.

I love teaching others how to make these same kinds of games for their children. Check out my website Games For Learning at:

http://www.angelfire.com/wi2/GamesForLearning

or join my Games4Learning yahoo group:

http://groups.yahoo.com/group/Games4Learning/

where we discuss games for educating our children at home or in the classroom.

I also welcome private emails.

HAVE FUN.

games:
there's no end to the games you can invent using your curriculum mixed with popular games. you're limited with only one child, but take a look at>>

-simon says (point to different events on a history timeline, or science concepts (seasons, solar system, anatomy))
-scavenger hunts (hide vocabulary words around the house. discuss them as he finds them, or once he gathers all 10)
-musical chairs (learn a song or a poem by dancing around chairs as the music plays)
-memory (use index cards to make a memory game, specific to what you're learning--match drawings to words to learn vocabulary, or equations to solutions to review math)
-board games (construction paper, dice and a little thought make for a fun afternoon of learning)

beyond games>>
my son LOVES anything on the computer. he has his own blog where we post stories, pictures and video. his attention span is great when he's typing spelling words! use a free blog service and show off your son's hard work!
