my son has been asthmatic since he was three months old.We are now controlling is with advair and singulair taken daily.He is seven years old about eighty four pounds and an otherwise healthy kid.I just read and article that said that it is harder for them to figt off an infection like bronchitis when using the advair diskus.I also read that the cases were more severe and that more kids died from it I want to know a little more about this if at all possible.

Advair dose have a steroid component to it. While it is true that steroids decrease the body's immunity a bit, the fact of the matter is that they are also invaluable in the treatment of multiple inflammatory diseases such as asthma. All medicines shuld be looked in the context of risk-benefit. If the benefits of taking the medicine consistently outweigh the risks , then it is worth it to stay on the medicine. While you should definitely ask this question to the MD who prescribed the Advair, I am of the opinion that the steroid dose in the Advair is not enough to significantly affect the outcomes of bronchitis or colds that your child may catch. This may be more true when one is taking high dose steroids in the form of pills or injections.

I am a healthcare provider and I am aware of the information you are referring to. I saw the articles and the research. You are right, there is some concern with the use of Advair. However, you need to speak to your child's healthcare provider about your concerns. And please do not stop this medication without consulting first. Bear in mind that the number of children who die from asthma attacks is higher than the ones who may suffer due to the use of Advair . There are alternative medications available,
