There is not much you can do for him at home except keep him warm and try to keep him hydrated. You can give him unflavored pedialyte sold in the baby section of the grocery store. These things won't harm your puppy, but will most likely not be enough to help him get better.
You say you're short on money for a vet, so this makes me wonder if your puppy is current on vaccinations. He should have had about three sets by 12 weeks.
The most common "sick puppy" problems we see at our clinic or intestinal parasites and parvo. There are lots of other problems a puppy can have, but those two are at least 95% of all cases we see. Both are treatable, but both require medication and support from a vet. Both will progress making the puppy worse and worse and eventually cause death. People who wait a while to get their puppies in for treatment find that the puppies are MUCh more expensive to treat (they need more!) and have a much lower chance of survival.
Good luck to you. I hope you are able to get this puppy in to see a doctor soon. He deserves a chance.

It sounds like he may have possibly gotten into something. Is there anything around their pen that you notice is chewed? It could be something as simple as that he has worms. You can go to a pet store and get some dewormer over the counter for this. Have you dewormed him yet? It is very important for puppies to get dewormed. They are born with worms and without being treated for them it can get worse and sometimes may even be fatal. It may take a couple of doses to get him feeling better. You can ask at the Pet store what the brand they recommend is. You could also try calling a vet and see if they would give you some answers over the phone. I'm from Wisconsin and our vet has a 24 hours line that you can leave a message on. you may want to see if there is a vet in your area that has this.
good luck i hope he feels better!!!! :)

It is unfortunate that you do not have the money to take you pet to the vet. Did you think this dog would go through life without an ailment? Medical costs have to be considered when you weigh up the pros and cons before you adopt an animal. Am I correct in thinking you have two puppies? There is a thing called responsible pet ownership I don't think you are acting responsible when you have pets you cannot afford to look after.
You should take your dog to have a Vet check no matter what the cost it is your responsibility. beg or borrow the money I will not say steal but think about it.

It is important, since you say they are always getting into things, to think of and look around for anything that he may have gotten into that might have made him sick. Puppies need to have the area they have access to "puppy-proofed" for safety like a toddler needs a house proofed to keep them from getting into chemicals under the sink or poisonous plants, electrical cords, etc.
This will help if you take him into a Vet. Some Vets will work with you on a payment plan. It can't hurt to ask around. Maybe even you could ask a Vet to see him in return for working in the office, cleaning or something to pay off the bill. If nothing else, offering it may help you find a Vet who will work with you.

I hate to say this, but what you've described (referred to as lethargy) is very general and could mean anything. I can give you however some signs to watch for that would mean you would need to take the dog in ASAP to a Veterinarian. Watch for: vomiting, diarrhea, distended abdomen (bloated in appearance), retching (looks as if the dog is trying to vomit but cant), a change of pink gums color (normal) to white or dark red, and refusing to eat or drink. Obviously I cant say what your pet could have via the Internet and/or with only knowing that he's acting lethargic. However, if he develops dehydration (from not eating/drink, vomiting, and/or diarrhea), this will complicate a recovery from whatever is causing him to be sick. All of the symptoms (or combination thereof) signals that there is something critical taking place thereby needing the assistance of a Veterinarian. I can understand how expensive it is to see a Vet, but I dont know what else you could do at home. I wish I had more to tell you.

If your puppie doesnt have shots and you took him out he could have gotten parvo its like the most common for puppies. my labs got it when they were puppies so yes on the pedialite. dont leave it in with the other puppie!
you might be able to get some
The treatment of Parvovirus is fairly straightforward and directed at supportive therapy. Replacing fluids lost through vomiting and diarrhea is probably the single most important treatment. Intravenous administration of a balanced electrolyte solution is preferred, but in less severe cases, subcutaneous or oral fluids may be used. Antibiotic therapy is usually given to help control secondary bacterial infections. In cases of severe vomiting, drugs to slow the vomiting may also be used. After the intestinal symptoms begin to subside, a broad spectrum de-worming agent is often used. Restricting the food during periods of vomiting is also necessary. Undertaking the treatment of affected dogs and puppies without professional veterinary care is very difficult. Even with the best available care, the mortality of severely infected animals is high. Without the correct amount of properly balanced intravenous fluids, the chance of recovery in a severely stricken animal is very small

I would recommend taking your pet to the vet. Even though you do not have the money, they make money plans where you pay off your bill slowly and over time. You should call your local vet and ask if they have plans like these. Your puppy could be suffering from parasites and you should take him to the vet as soon as possible because it could die from them. Also you need to make sure you have your puppy updated on all of his shots. If you do not want to pay for them at the vet then you should go to your local petco and they have dates where you can bring your dog and get shots for a smaller amount of money. hope this helps!!!!

If he is your baby then find the money to get him help from a vet or he is going to die in front of you. You leave him in a pen all day and night, I woudl die too. No way to have pets all cooped up. No wonder they are sad and dying. get him to a vet and get help so you don't go out for a while big deal, take care of the important stuff first like your puppy

I'm so sorry...I just read your question and reponses. I went through the whole thing with my pup who is 12 weeks . Took him to the Vet when he quit eating and drinking and waiting to see if he will survive. they say Parvo even though he has not been around anywhere or anyone with it, but it must have been brought in on shoes. My Vet bill is $400.00 already and he has been their 2 days and we think he is losing the battle. It is sooooooooooooo hard. You loved your little guy and he knew it. Take Care my dear

Take him to the vet. Most of them will let you work out payment arrangements. It bothers me that some people get animals they can't afford. You need to make the commitment that like a child, you will do whatever it takes to get them medical care. There is definitely something wrong. He may have gotten into something and ate something that isn't good. Only one way to know that...VET!
