I had open heart surgery a little over 2 years ago, when I was 33. Personally, I am so proud of my scar, and I show anyone who wants to see it (and many who don't particularily care to see it). I'm not sure why you would have to wear long sleeved shirts, though.

If I were you, I would embrace your scars. They are a physical reminder of how strong you are and what you went through. And any boyfriend worth having is going to love that about you, and will be just as proud of your scars as I think you should be.

I barely learned that 3yrs ago. and im 33 now. O yea dont be ashamed of your scars if you want to lighten them try aloe vera cream. i have a scar on my chest. you can see when i where tank tops.
