I am once again confused and upset. The Dr told me that I had
a fatty liver and that in order to get better I had to diet, I am pre-diebetic and
so I went on a low fat diet. I was put on asacol, it has been a few weeks and I have
fallen ill with bronchitis and Now - Plueirsy. My regular dr did bloodwork and it
shows high liver enzymes and NOW low protein. I am in terrible pain with the
lung condition and often can hardly make it through the day, I come home and go
to bed for the rest of the night. I am feeling sick to my stomach and severe
fatique. I am at my wits end My mother says that I need a different dr, I just don't know.

I am trying to loose weight, and its not helping so far.. I can stand to loose around thirty pounds ( I am 5'4" and
weight 160) Do you think that the
"pain" from my pluresy is connected to
my liver problems?

I have mild fatty liver and insulin resistance (prediabetes) I started on Metformin ER and I started taking milk thistle. My glucose levels are better and my liver enzymes have been normal now for the lst 18 months. I wanted the Metformin ER because diet and execise wasn't helping with glucose levels or weight loss, I lost 15 pounds on the Met ER too.
I got this info from the link below " Metformin (Glucophage) and rosiglitazone (Avandia) are oral glucose-lowering (also known as hypoglycemic) medications used to treat type II diabetes. These medications work by correcting insulin resistance. Therefore, these types of drugs may potentially benefit people with NAFLD and insulin resistance. In fact, preliminary studies have shown that treatment with metformin can improve liver enzyme elevations in people with NAFLD."

First of all, Asacol is for Irritable Bowel Syndrome or Inflammatory Bowel Diseases such as Chrohn's. I am not sure why you are taking that unless you have IBS or IBD. Also, I agree that your bronchitis and pleurisy are unrelated to the fatty liver. You need to speak to your doctor about your concerns. 1) if you are having trouble losing the weight, you may need medication to help control your blood levels, 2) what EXACTLY is the cause of the pleurisy? was it brought on from the bronchitis and he feels it will be relieved when the infection clears or is there something else causing it? 3) you may need something for your pain if the pleurisy is causing any. Your fatigue is most likey due to the pleurisy as it restricts the normal breathing with the inflammation- also, it can cause permanent adhesions between the pleura- so find out the severity of it and the cause. If you feel unsure of this doctor, get a second opinion- especially because diabetes will be a life-long illness with lifestyle changes and the pleurisy can be quite serious depending on the cause.

Why are you taking Asacol? I take it for Ulcerative Collitis. Your fatty liver issue is probably due to being overweight. Having a fatty liver can cause your liver enzymes to be elivated. Milk Thistle has been recommended by my Gastronologist aftter he did a liver biopsy to make sure that it was just a fatty liver and not Hepatitis. Plueirsy and bronchitis are totally seperate issues. The pain would be from the plueirsy. I am not a medical professional, but feel that they are seperate issues. I have had left chest pain that feels like somebody is reaching in a squeezing my lung. Been told I might have a hernea. I go for a upper GI in a couple of days. ER thought it was an asthma exasserbation or a panic attack.
Good luck to you and god bless.

If you can't see a new doc by tomorrow, then go to the emergency room. If you live in a small town, then try to go to a larger city or a teaching hospital to get checked. There are several things that could be going on with you and it sounds like something you should not play around with. Go and let a good doctor "eyeball" you instead of having us total strangers second guess it for you.
Good Luck

Have you sat down and discussed these problems with your doctor? Is he aware of your terrible pain? If so, it may be time for a new doctor. If not you need to do so. Nobody should have to suffer through awful pain. PS Do take your mother or some responsible relative or friend with you to your visits. You have so much going on that you need someone. Hope that you feel better.

Yep, your mom is right. You need a different doctor.
Instead of low fat, cut the sugar from your diet.
[ I'm NOT saying go no carb high protein high fat.]
I'm saying cut sugar, added sugar and foods naturally very high in sugar, like pineapples and dried fruit.
Make sure you drink enough water.

You don't need a different doctor. You need to lose weight.
Lose the weight, and most of your health problems will disappear.

You need to go to the hospital (ER)
Something isn't right. Got to a different hospital sounds like you need to be admitted in overnight so they can do more tests and find out what is wrong
