There are a lot of pictures out there.

A word of caution, however.

Herpes in its most commonly pictured appearance is not real life. Seriously, the most typical thing about herpes is its tendency to be atypical. The majority of people who actually have herpes never have classic blisters, have symptoms so mild they don't even know they have the virus.

So be careful not to self-diagnose. The only way to find out if you have herpes is to get a type specific culture of an active sore if possible or a blood test. And the blood test could give you a false negative all the way up til 16 weeks post-exposure because it takes a while for the antibodies to show up. Short term antibodies appear right away but are not reliably typed and disappear pretty quickly too, so there is a short 'window of opportunity' after exposure for this to be an effective way to diagnose.
