My family is dealing with a person who fits this description to a tee!! My question is, can a person with MSBP bring on the onset of juvenile diabetes?? The child I am referring to seems to ALWAYS have some minor/major problem (along with the sibling) while in her care, but are always fine away from her. These children are always in and out of doctors offices, therapists, etc.. When this MSBP lady does not like the outcome or if the therapist, doc, etc.. does not agree with her she drops that person immediately saying they are not fit to practice! It turns out that this child had been wetting the bed (supposedly) all the time so the mother dramatically rushed this child to the doctors w/o consulting the childs father who is very involved. Turns out the child was diagnosed with type 1 diabetes. This was 4 years ago. The child always seems to have either severe lows with mother or severe highs and both children are sick with stomach flu w/ her at least once per month. Any thoughts

Very serious issues. Certainly, the history suggests the possibility of MBP/ Intervening on behalf of the child may be difficult, but wuld suggest you contact childrens protective services with the story, and let them investigate. This can be done anonymously in most jurisdictions. Docs are often blindsided by this problem, as they want to believe parents. Parents can be devious and ingenious in the ways they can bring on symptoms in their children. Children die from MBP, and you should contact the authorities with your concerns.

ok, psychologist here!! munchausen syndrome is when a person (usually female and not necessarily a mother) harms themselves or fakes illness for attention, usually the hospitals become aware there is nothing wrong and they come to be a nuiscance, they read up on illnesses but is more than hypocondria because hypocondriacs think they have an illness, those with munchausen just fake it for attention. the proxy one is more serious because it is when the person suffering harms another, like a child (be it a nurse or parent) to draw attention to themselves and their situation and receive the love, empathy or praise for doing the best they could (beverly allit is a good example). hope this is clearer. these people are really sick and need help, but they do not think they acutally have a problem!! bizzare and disturbing (a lot go into caring professions).

Steroids seriously increase the blood sugar level of people who have diabetes, and they cause or uncover diabetes in many people who don’t yet have it.

Perhaps the MSBP person is giving the child steroids.

Talk to Child Protection Services in your area and they will investigate if there is merit to your suspicions.
