You shouldn't breed your cat unless it's purebred and you're breeding it with another purebred of the same kind.
Kittens are cute, but unless you're prepared to make sure they get the veterinary care they require (including vaccinations and fixings), then you should really just not breed a cat. Think and act responsibly.
Each year millions of healthy and lovable cats and kittens are euthanized at shelters and pounds in our country because their numbers greatly exceed the number of available homes. While some pet owners claim that they have no trouble giving away their kittens, they should realize that their babies take homes away from other unwanted kittens. Also, if they were to call the adoptive homes one year after the adoption, they might be surprised to find that very few kittens still lived with the families that adopted them. Overpopulation devalues the quality of life for all pets.

Are you saying you want to breed your cats because you want one that looks like the mother or father? You do know that a cat has more than one kitten, right? A cat can easily have 5-8 kittens or sometimes more. What are you planning on doing with those extra kittens?
Do you know that approximately 10 million cats are killed every year due to overpopulation? Do you really want to be a part of that? Each kitten you bring into the world means that another cat somewhere will not have a home and will have to die. Think about that before you breed your cats please. Spay and neuter your cats.

Wait until the female is in heat. Signs that a female is in heat are rolling around on the ground, hyperactivity, loud meowing, feral cats gathering around outside your door and trying to get in, etc. Domestic female cats can go into heat as often as once every 2 weeks or so. Then put the female cat in the same room as the male cat, with all exits secured. They will get down to business almost immediately. You should do it a couple times to make sure of a pregnancy, but your cat will likely have kittens about 2 months later.

a cat is only in heat when her body is in heat, you can't control that... but luckily a male cat is in the mood anytime he's around a female in heat... timing for the spring probably won't happen, so if you want kittens now's the time! or wait until her next cycle!

Guys, the asker is looking for advice, not another sad, one-sided lecture on neutering and spaying. If they want to breed their cats, it's their responsibility - you can't tell them how to think. As long as they take good care of the kittens, I'm not bothered, and neither should you.
As for the mating thing.. Female cats come into heat some time every year. She should ermm.. get pregnant by herself without any human help. If you only want one litter then you should spay her after she has her kittens.. They are pretty frisky creatures. As for taking care of the kittens, the mother will take care of them herself in a nice cosy spot in your cupboard or something, until they are old enough to eat and walk around on their own. Any problems, look in a book or use your common sense. o.0''
And, yeah, I'm not a cruel monster who wants to see kittens in the pound, dying. I love cats as much as the rest of you. As long as the female (or whatever her name is) is taken care of and looked after properly, and her kittens are too, I'm happy.
I'm not some crazy, neuter/spay activist who will letterbomb you if Tabitha is expecting!
What I do not agree with is reckless ownership. The asker should be ready for the new responsibility of kittens and have plans ready that most benefit the wellbeing of all the cats.

Have the cats fixed. Go to any local shelter and you will find many cats that look like the cats you have that need homes. Form babies to seniors at that.

You dont. This is very irresponsible. What do you plan on doing with up to 8 kittens? How about the cost of vaccinating everyone and vet visits?
