Splenda has loose sugar and brown sugar now and when you bake with it you can't even tell I know cuz my hubby is diabetic and well we like our desserts but now we don't have to deal with the side effects. It is really a great alternative to sugar and there are no conversions such as 1/2 cup to make a cup of sugar and so forth.

Having diabetes doesn't mean you have to give up cake.
You can have your cake and eat it too !
Your friend will just have to mind his portions.
An angle food cake is good for people who are watching their carbo count. It has a lot of air in it.Top it off with some whipped cream from the store or better yet, make your own !
When should I be there ?
