Thank you for the advice; the one I had planned on making used a lighbulb and styrofoam cooler, and I hadn't thought there might be a fire risk. That link seems to use parts that are hard to come by unless you have them sitting around though :( (like the old fashioned hairdryer part). I may just have to break down and buy one, but they are so expensive.

Thank goodness! I just read that link from the Mother Earth News --- No light bulb in this incubator plan.

South of me there was a house fire caused by a light bulb incubator. No people killed, haven't heard yet about animals, but the house was a total loss.

Be careful with any running appliance -- I know ... I know ... you already have a mother to nag you, but still ...
