147/99 would be significant if it were real. There is a high possibility that you do however have ' white coat hypertension ', this means your BP is only up when the doctor checks it!
Your GP has made the excellent decision to excude this with 24 hour BP monitoring, and you seem lucky enough to belong to a practice that has a monitor of its own, which will speed things up.
Once you have had the test your GP will be able to read through the results and hopefully reassure you.

Generally, 147 is a little too high, but it may be that you are experiencing what is called "white coat hypertension," where some people are so nervous around doctors that their blood pressure spikes beyond normal and gives an inflated reading.
The other thing is that the lesser number (the lower one in a reading) is the more important one, and it is impossible to really know how bad 147 is without the comparison.

first of all your blood pressure is two numbers usually shown as 120/80. I am going to assume that you are talking about the top number. 147 is not really that high, especially for the situation you were in at the time. The medication you are on is also a blood pressure lowering med so your doctor probably wants to make sure that the medication is actually working.

A systolic BP of 147 is higher than would be expected of someone taking propranolol, but not dangerous. If you think it was just because you were at the doctor, go back to get it checked by the nurse. If it continues to be high, either ask for 24-hour monitoring (you carry a little audio-tape-sized box around with you for a day and night) or buy a mini BP monitor from the chemist (£9.99 from Lloyds if you're in the UK) and check it at home where you're more relaxed.

I know how ya feel. I hate going to the doc too. What will happen during the monitoring is they will want you to come back once a week for a month. If your blood pressure is consistently high they will prescribe a medication to control it and possibly a diuretic if you have water retention (easy test...use your thumb and press on the front side of your lower leg kinda hard for a few seconds, if the impression stays for several seconds or longer you have water retention).
You might also want to invest in a home blood pressure machine. You can buy these at WalMart or any pharmacy. The machine will allow you to monitor the blood pressure in between doctor visits. I consider this to be rather important because if the prescription is too strong it can make your blood pressure dangerously low. I'm on blood pressure medicine and kinda sensitive to medication, so I have to keep a close eye on the blood pressure.

As previous answer blood pressure is usually two numbers and 120/80 is normal, so if yours was 147 this was a bit high but could have been because you were nervous. It is the lower number however that is dangerous when high say 95 or more

Yes,just the anticipation of going to the doctor to have your bp taken will cause bp to get higher. 147 is not too bad but 120 or less is considered the norm. You can get a bp monitor from your pharmacy and then take it to your doctor to calibrate and check out . Then you can take your own bp at home. Doing that will help you get a better sense of how your blood pressure is. Remember 120 over 80 is the standard. Good health and good luck.

Normal Blood pressure is about 120/80, but many times it is higher at the doctor's office, due to anxiety from being there. 147, if it is your systolic pressure(the top number) is slightly high, but not immediately dangerous. It is a good idea to get it checked again, just to be sure.

the standard blood pressure in an adult should be between 100systolic(top) over 60 diastolic (bottom) to 140systolic over 90diastolic.
147 over 99 is slightly high but high BP is easily controlled nowadays. Try not to worry as stress and worry tend to send ur blood pressure higher.

If you don't like seeing the doctor, buy a bp meter and take your own bp. The electronic ones are very easy to use and are quite accurate if you get a good one. There's a thing called the white coat syndrome when the bp goes up in the presence of a white coat figure. You want it to be 120/80, and there are many things you can do to bring it lower if it's high, e.g. exercise, diet, etc. Try them before you go on the drugs.
