No an EKG will not. But there is a much simpler way to detect a heart murmur and that is to have someone take a stethoscope and listen to your heart.

no, an ekg doesn't detect murmurs, it looks for electrical abnormalites. Your doctor knows you have a murmur because when he listened to your chest with a stethoscope, he heard the murmur. If he was not concerned, then you need not be, almost 75% of the population has a murmur at one time or another, and it doesn't mean a whole lot.

An echocardiogram (cardiac ultrasound), may be ordered to identify a structural problem that is causing the heart murmur. An echocardiogram uses sound waves to create an image of the heart's chambers and valves.
To find out if your heart murmur is innocent or if it is caused by another heart problem, your doctor may also order these tests:
* A chest x-ray to see if your heart is enlarged.
* Electrocardiography (ECG or EKG) to check for an irregular heartbeat (arrhythmia) or an enlarged heart.
* Echocardiography to see valve function, heart wall motion, and overall heart size.
* A special medicine called amyl nitrate that is used to define certain heart murmurs. Your doctor will have you breathe in the medicine, which briefly changes your blood pressure and heart rate.
High pitched blowing sound is heard in Mitral regurgitation. The same can be seen Echocardiography.
Abnormal splitting of first sound is heard in Left bundle branch block. The sane can be detected in ECG.
