What do you mean non-vegetable diet? Do you mean
Non-Vegetarian? Meat became part of that countries cusine by the Moguls/Muslims who invadedIndia the 16th. Century. Vegetarian cuisine is very common in India and I am not sure where the other participants get their strange knowledge from.
The Indian cuisine offers a great variety. There are different dishes. They use all kinds of lentils and beans. They have a variety of spices that they mix together. They have very nice bread such as Naan, puris... The specialties are daal which can be made with chickpeas, lentils... served with rice. They also have lots of different vegetable side dishes. They also serve raita (yogurt with cucumbers) and chutneys with their meals. Samosas are also very popular in India. As beebs mentioned it, they make many dishes with Paneer (cheese) green peas panner, spinach paneer...The desserts are also amazing and overly sweet such as Gulab Jamun, Kulfi ice cream, Burfi, Kheer(sweet rice pudding)....
Hummus is middle eastern and is not part of Indian cuisine.

The National religion of India is Hinduism. They believe that when they die, they reincarnate. So considering that, they believe that the animals around them are their long past family members. That is why they do not eat meat. The everyday foods are rice, a form of bread made from flour, some cooked vegetables with many spices and flavor, and curry. That is the morning/afternoon meal. Most Indians do not eat rice at supper/dinner.
P.S. You mean vegetarian diet?

India cuisine is mainly chicken and vegerarian. Paneer cheese is a dense, non melting cheese that they cook with spinach (paneek paneer). They enjoy spicy curries, relying on fenungreek as a basis for curry flavor. Hummus, and chickpeas are widely used as well. Here is a link with some info http://www.thokalath.com/cuisine/index.php
