Ok. You need to follow the directions on the bottle. Would an extra t-spoon kill you, I'm sure not, but codeine is a narcotic and if taken too much can suppress the respiratory system and can be fatal. It would take a fair amount to do this but I wouldn't try it because everyone is different. I am assuming you are taking Tussionex which was prescribed to me. It can be addictive if taken too much so watch out. Also don't take other over the counter cough syrups without contacting your dr because they tend to have alcohol.

Sorry but these other guys are right - codeine can kill you and cause the breathing problems etc. To find out what else is in the medicine, read the label. It would not hurt you to take an additional tsp or 2, but it probably won't help you either. If it has dxm (dextromethorphan hydrobromide) in it, then a dose around 30 mg of that is guaranteed to take away your cough - it's the only one I ever found to really alleviate cough. It is also highly stressed that smokers not use dxm, because then they won't have a chance to hack up their lung, or uh, mucus as well. So anyway, the high you were looking for and/or asking about comes from the DXM drug. There are some medicines you can get that only have this drug as the ACTIVE ingredient, and this is very important! The codeine and corricidin stuff will kill ya or seriously hurt you. The DXM isn't smart either, but it's one helluva high; however, if you are not over 18 (which it doesn't sound like you are), I would not take it for a high - it has been known to lead to schizophrenia due to excessive brain damage, and since your body is not done growing, you should not experiment with drugs.........

To much codeine can shut down your parasympathetic nervous system which could paralyze your breathing and heart circulation. DON'T TAKE MORE THEN RECOMMENDED!!!!!! Ask your doctor first! Also cough syrup contains DXM which may cause psychosis in large quantities and guanifessimine which will cause you too vomit blood nonstop until you lose all your body fluids. ASK YOU DOCTOR FIRST ABOUT IT NOT WORKING FIRST!!!

To overdose with narcotics is foolish. Take only the amount the doctor recommended. No cough syrup is all that effective, unfortunately. Extra would probably make you feel sleepy, and nauseated. Wait out the coughing, only take it as often as the doctor recommended. If it's really awful coughing by tomorrow morning, call the doctor back and ask if you can make any changes. You will likely hear what I just told you. You may feel sick from the narcotic, but your coughing won't get any better. Don't get to thinking you know more than the doctor does. He goes to school for 12 years to learn his profession. Listen to him (or her.)

don't take more than your doctor told you to take.
keep taking it according to your doctor's orders.
too much anything may cause serious harm to your body and maybe even cause death.
if you think that your medicine is not working, or your sickness is getting worse, contact your doctor for an alternative medicine.

Why would you take Codine and promethazine ??? Get real....you need counseling to figure out why you need to rely on drugs. Codine is not a recreational drug....and if you use it for that..you really need some help!
