Most people are just totally uninformed about meat. Despite the issue of horrible animals cruelty, there are other things to consider. Animals raised for food, including chickens, turkeys, cows, and pigs, are kept in deplorable conditions. They are fed an unnatural diet of grains and ground up organ meats of other dead animals. They are injected with growth hormones, antibiotics, and steroids. When they are slaughtered, the meat is so laden with fecal matter and bacteria, that the meat is injected with bleach and peroxide. All of these things, including any disease the animal may have had, are consumed by the diner. It just goes against good common sense to eat dead animals, when there is a wide selection of wholesome foods that do not cause an animal to be sacraficed just to fulfill a selfish humans needs. Does meat taste good? Sure it does, but so do veggies, grains, fruits, beans, etc. I enjoy more variety in my diet now than I ever did, and do not feel deprived in the least. Do I miss meat? NO, it repulses me. Now that I am in possession of the facts, it has no appeal to me at all. The farming of animals for food is very bad for the environment. A plant based diet could end world hunger, and reduce pollution

I missed meat for about the first week, but after that, i didn't crave it at all. I tried a hamburger a couple years ago and i felt sick for a week. I couldn't bring myself to eat meat again. Also the year before I was a vegetarian i got sick a lot, but now i rarely get sick. being vegetarian is better for you and the animals and also you save trees that are cut down for animals bred for meat. According to PETA, a vegetarian saves an acre of forest a year. :-)

I first became vegetarian because the Hollywood actor John Leguizamo said it helped make his skin smoother and his build leaner for a role in "To Wong Foo, etc. From Julie Newmar", where he played a transvestite. I was then battling adult acne for many years. I found that going veg helped clear my skin of breakouts, and later on I noticed that my resistance to infectious diseases (including common colds and flu) got stronger.

One year after becoming vegetarian, however, I realized that I wasn't in it just for health reasons. I actually felt a closer affinity to animals, and arrived at the conviction that they are not meant to be killed just to feed humans.

Later on, I learned that a vegetarian diet is the most beneficial diet for the environment, because it discourages wasteful farming, pollution of water systems, etc.

Meat tasted good when I was an omnivore, but now, even the smell of it repulses me. I don't miss real meat, tofu tastes good when done right!

I, personally, do not enjoy knowing I'm eating a cute little animal. It makes me feel like a horrible person, and personally DISGUSTED with myself. [See peta2.com, there are some videos there that might just change your mind about being carnivorous].

In each package of meat [the ones that buy in the grocery store], there is a percentage of animal waste, [poo, eww], which CANT be good for you.

There are a lot of diseases that can be passed around through the meat of a sick animal, so, why risk it?

I'd rather not have the guilt of eating an animal, or worrying about shortening my life by eating it, so that is why i am taking steps to becoming vegetarian, even though i was raised by meat, almost every meal, and live with a family of constant meat eaters. Go veg! :]

How about asking:

1. Why eat meat?
2. What's so great about meat that it's so hard to give up?

There are 3 main reasons. In no particular order they are health, ethics and ecology. A plant based diet is just healthier for you. Sure, you have to learn new ways of combining foods to ensure adequate nutrition, but many non-vegetarians don't get adequate nutrition!
A lot of vegetarians feel that slaughtering other creatures to feed yourself is wrong.
Lastly, a plant based diet is more ecologically sustainable and economically sensible-it takes many pounds of plant food to produce one pound of meat.
Finally it just comes down to your love for meat vs. these issues.

There are many reasons, whether they are ethical or health reasons. Some people don't believe in eating meat due to religious reasons, as well. Many people have many different reasons.

I love meat too much so that's never an option for me. however, i do have some vegetarian friends, some of them do it because of religion, childhood habit, or a unique one, he tried to prove to his dad that he can be a vegetarian. So, it can be anything, do whatever you're comfortable doing. Meat is not that bad when you don't overconsume them
