My son died from an accidental drug overdose, Methadone and Xanax, did he suffered or was he in a coma?

Thank you all for your condolences. My Son (Bubba) left this world in Oct. of 2005. It's been a long journey for me. I miss him so. I'm sure he did not suffer and just went to sleep but some times I just need to ask. Thank you for all the caring answers. God Bless

I am sure he died peacefully. Taking xanax is a downer and makes most people sleep. I dont know anything about Methadone, except what I have heard recently on the news.

I also lost a child so I understand your grief. It is to much to bear. I went to group meeting for a while, It is called Compassionate Friends. You should look them up and at least try a meeting and see if this is something that could help you.

In correction to CJ's comment on Xanax being a muscle relaxant. This simply is not the case. Xanax is a benzodiazepine ( tranquilizer). Benzos and tranquilizers are two different medications. Xanax will cause you to be calm and to rest.
Please accept my condolences about your son. I am a methadone user myself and have been on methadone maintenance for three years now. You have to be VERY careful as to what you take with methadone. I am so sorry for your loss. I have a son also and cannot even imagine what you must be going through. My prayers are with you and God bless you!

Words cannot express how sorry I am to hear that your son died. My guess is that he died in a relaxed state with no suffering...i don't know about methadone, but xanax is a tranquilizer - so taking too much xanax makes you very sleepy, so you would die in your sleep.

First of all, my condolences to you. I'm very sorry for your loss.

Depending on the dosage, I would say that he went to sleep. Methadone is a strong pain killer, commonly used in many cases to bring people down from heroin addiction. Xanax is a Benzodiazipate, or a main skeletal muscle relaxer which is used to treat anxiety.

I doubt he suffered. His body functions probably just gradually shut down.

I'm not a Dr so I couldn't answer for sure but I would guess he did not suffer. Drugs Numb pain and reality ,all the things you would need to suffer. I would just like to tell you I am really sorry about your child.

I'm sorry to hear. Both are Central Nervous System depressants. I doubt he felt much of anything when he did it. He simply went to sleep and never woke up.

Why don't you get some counseling for your loss. Perhaps join a group for people who suffered a loss of a loved one.
