The thing with tofu is it will absorb the flavors of whatever you cook it in. So if you cook with something yummy, it will be yummy! The texture is a bit odd, but you will soon get used to it. I'm not even vegetarian and I enjoy it in certain dishes. Congratulations and good luck with your newer, healthier lifestyle!

I like it. However, I've always been open to new foods, even before I went vegetarian (I'm now vegan). I think I'm weird even amongst vegs because I'll slice it and press it and put it between two slices of whole wheat bread, add some ketchup and mustard and have a sandwhich.
For as long as I've been eating tofu, I've yet to really experiment with it. I also eat with rice, steamed veggies and soy sauce. I boil the rice, with the veggies steaming on top. When the rice is done, I mix in the veggies, tofu, and soy sauce and have dinner with a slice of whole wheat bread and maybe either a glass of soy milk or water.
I think I might try stir-frying it tomorrow. There is a dinner club at my church that meets every month and tomorrow is stir-fry. I'm gong to suggest (since there will be different meats) that the veggies get stir fried separately and the meats in different pans. (I'm hoping this will happen or I will be very bummed. Although people sure have been going out of their way at church dinners to assist the pregnant student pastor's wife.) This way, I can have my veggies and eat them too. Then I'll just add the tofu that I stir-fried at home and hopefully at least be content.
Thanks for the the recipe sites. (I'm sorry. I don't remember who shared them.) Also, just type in "tofu recipes" in Yahoo! Search and you'll find a plethora of recipes and sites.
Happy eats.

It depends entirely on how it is prepared.
If you just eat it straight out of the package it will not be very good.
In stir fries (use firm tofu) it is good
You can put the soft tofu in a chocolate pie, take 2/3 bag of chocolate chips, melt on the stove, then blend with a package of soft tofu (in the juice box like container.) Poor this into a graham cracker pie crust and you have an incredibly easy, rich dessert.

It can be wonderful because it is so versatile and takes up practically every spice. So, if you are a good cook, you'll love it, if not, it can be bland, too soft and frustrating. Start out with ready made soy products to get an idea. I love smoked tofu with sunflower seeds the most. There are also yogurts, puddings, you can make cheese cakes, ice cream, spreads, fry it, saute, stir-fry and bake it. But, there are also people allergic to soy, so, find out if you are by taking it slowly.

Yum! Fried tofu is the bomb! You should at least try that dish before you give up on tofu forever. Besides, it's the single best vegetarian protein.

It depends, some people love it, some people hate it. It really depends on how open you are to trying new things and how creative you can be with your recipes.
I personally don't enjoy Tofu by itself, but in a good recipe with good seasonings, I love it!! I especially love it in Tacos. The restaurant "Moes" has great Tofacos.
It's so healthy, and cheaper than many meats, it's definitely good to at least try! There is plenty of recipes all over the web.

I recommend beans as opposed to tofu. Soy is a common allergen, and most of it has been genetically modified so much that it is no longer a natural food. Google "roundup ready soy" for more info. Beans can be mixed with mashed potato and made into a great burger. They are very versitile, and there are many varieties, such as lentils, split peas, aduki, kidney, black, yellow, white, navy, etc.

I actually developed a taste for it. It's kind of like a mushroom/nut flavor. An important trick to know is that you don't have to use it in the jiggly, cooked-egg texture that it normally has. If you freeze it, it takes on the crumbly and solid texture of hamburger! I haven't figured out what the soft style is good for, though. I get firm or extra firm. I also think soy milk is excellent as chocolate milk and in other flavors, although I don't like it in coffee. But it's great on cereals.

Well, tofu is a very healthy food but not every one likes it. Tofu is a soy-bean(or maybe bean-curd) um i think, cake and it is really nice with soy sauce. Maybe you should try a little but if ya dont like it then well you don't like it. But i love fried tofu with soysauce and some rice. It's really nice. All i can say is...go for it sister

first it's yum, very yum
instead of buyuing it and cooking it
go to a resturant and order it
have a chef make you tofu so you know what it tastes like
then go home and make it
then go back and beg the chef to teach you how to make tofu tastes like that.
you really don't have alot of choice for protein so make tofu your friend
