Humans are social beings. We divide our roles in society, and thus are not faced with all the thrills life may bring. If you would want someone who has never killed an animal, to kill his own lunch, there might be an initial shock involved. If trauma prevails over hunger, then trouble is on the way. I would advise starting with fishing, but before watching some Natural Geographic documentary on how fish may become friendly with divers in some local water environment.
Not everyone is fit to kill, anyway. Some animals require more people to be hunted... Those who do not participate in killing the food, may be specialized in sharpening the knives, hairdressing, writing political speeches, or any other trade with which they get to the kill indirectly...
We are not plant eaters by nature. We have evolved from that point, leaving our cousin boisei in a dead end of evolution,
http://www.bbc.co.uk/sn/prehistoric_life/human/human_evolution/food_for_thought1.shtml
and a diet without meat is complicated, though not impossible, as most of us lost any sense what and how to eat properly at all.
It is my opinion that people who state that they would rather become vegetarian to avoid killing, are not objective. They are too comfortable in today's society in order to even imagine altered circumstances involving something more dangerous than going to the local shopping mall and buying meat which looks more like anything else than some dead animal.
Scavenging and/or steeling meat from others, is a good, perhaps even more efficient alternative :))
If I had to kill to eat, I guess I wouldn't have time to think of other options... Hmm, I would need to start with the local pigeons and the fish in the polluted river :(, before I aim the local zoo. I would just hope other hunters wouldn't strike me by accident or other motives. Then, with so many weapons involved, it might turn into something else...

I have hunted and killed animals before, and I am a vegetarian now. . . . I dont think animals were put on this earth to be killed and eaten. I am not ashamed of what I did, but it made me think and I chose to become vegetarian. Maybe the fact that I had done those things at an early age had some influence on it, im not sure. .. .

Almost certainly. The only living creatures that I might be able to kill are poultry and fish, because of their small more manageable size . Apart from anything else, the whole process of butchering and preparing meat for the table must be a bit messy, so I'd most probably become a veggie.

I would rather kill my own meat, it's partly because of the lack of care in the mainstream meat industry that my diet is mostly vegetarian. I generally only eat meat once or twice week .
I get my meat from a local organic farmer who has a slaughterers licence, & very good it is.

I will have to. Can't even face blood & not at all keen even to touch meat when it's raw. Unfortunately I love meat! Although I am very fond of vegetable too & never consider a meal complete without some veggie, I would be a very unhappy vegetarian!

No.
Seriously, until a few hundred years ago most people would have had to kill there own food at some point, and many people in the world still do, and they're all fine with it. It's just the fact we're so detatched from the process nowadays so mny people have a problem.

I'm already a vegetarian so this doesn't apply to me.
However, were I ever to eat meat again, it would only be meat that I personally killed myself. I believe if you're going to eat meat, you should at least participate in the killing process yourself so you understand what's involved.

No, i'd like to kill and slaughter my personal meat because which ability the animals (in my individual decision and care) may be dealt with a lot more beneficial humanely than in meat farms.

That is so a good question. I am vegatarian, but i htink that more people would become vegatarian. This is very annoying, as i know that that means they dont like meat enough to continue eating it!
If you DID do this, it is propably much better, as the animals as more free range aswell.

I find it quite disturbing that so many people are prepared to be so hypercritical!. Meat doesn't have to involve intensive farming methods or cruelty. I have worked in the industry as a teenager and now feel entirely comfortable with where my meat comes from. I have taken part in the process of slaughter and butchery and have a greater respect for the meat I eat, I will not buy intensively reared meat, but no, I will not become a veggie.
