Imperative you hang beads down over a doorway, a muslin tapestry is also essential on a wall~ and of course dont forget the incense ~ colored light bulbs in your lamps work as a great 70's look..also have the Stones 'Sticky Fingers' album playing as the guests arrive~

I just had a 70's party two months ago and it went like this.

Go to Spencer's store if you have one. This is where I found the strobe-light and disco light.

I also bought some posters to post up on the walls. Like Scarface, Saturday night fever Charlies Angels, Rocky, or even Rocky Horror etc... don't forget the black light and beaded curtains.

If you could get a hold on a record player and some ol'45 that would be awesome.

Party city has scene setters for 70's parties. I believe they have the colors you are looking for that say 70's disco.

You can have trivia games and play 70's music in the background.

If you have an s-video connection and a laptop you can create a slide show of some cool commercials from the 70's and intros to 70's sitcom and add some photos to create a movie slide to play all night on your TV. that is always a hit. your guest if they are from the 70's will have some serious flash backs. You can find them on retrojunk.com.

Don't forget to incorporate smiley faces and flowers. you can either buy or make tie-die shirts and hand them up.

light some incense and you are back in the 70's.

Hope this helps!

Bead shops carry all kinds of colored clear bead, they were popular in the 70's, make strands to hang instead of paper streamers, and make necklaces with them too for your guests.
Go to a vintage or resale shop and find a bunch of vests and colored items that your guests can wear at your party.
Get plastic purses in those colors as centerpieces with matching colored daisies inside a glass container and put inside the purses to decorate your table.
Goodie bags with those colored nailpolish and body stick-on tattoos would be fun!
Hope this trigers some of your own creative ideas!

Make huge tissue paper roses. Let me see if I can find a pic for you.

I got you instructions!
You will want tissue paper in a tie dye look or else use different colors.

I also think it would be funny if you could find some aluminum foil tv dinner containers (washed out of course!) and put appetizers on them.

Jello cake for dessert. Need a recipe?

Also you might want to get a lava lamp or black light from Spencer gifts for fun mood lighting.

Don't forget some incense (if people don't mind).
