Alan Carr's book, patches and drinking lemon juice finally did it for me, after 6 attempts. You must not think yourself a failure - it has taken years to reach this stage and it might take some time to undo it all. Look upon it as a success, every time you stop, if even for a few days. Your body will gradually start to get used to these periods of withdrawal and finally it will just happen, when you are feeling relaxed about it and not beating yourself up.

The last time I gave up (five years ago!) I found that keeping a security-blanket of a couple of cigarettes in a drawer helped me immensely. The worst thing is the fear of being without a cigarette, isn't it? So long as I knew they were there if things ever became too much for me, I could relax and wait for the craving to pass off. I never did use them. I also made a point of telling no one for the first few days, but of thinking of myself as a non-smoker right from the start. I also recommend washing all your clothes and appreciating the smell of clean laundry rather than smoke! For me, that was very powerful.

Good luck and don't lose heart!

I am sorry to hear that! Don't be disheartened. When you have made up your mind to try again, seek additional help. You don't say if you tried any aids. Next time try and get into a cessation class, they seem to increase the odds, and either use NRT or even consider Zyban, if your doctors considers you an appropriate candidate. It's sauces rate is double that of NRT.

do not quit all at once, not everyone can. Just start out with one craving at a time. There are triggers most of the time that make us think about smoking, try to figure out what they are. If you are craving one, leave your lighter at home, take your pack and go through the motions of smoking. It only works if you have the want to want, if you will.

Don't stop trying to quit. Most people try lost of times b4 they stop. Go see Lynn's stop smoking site. I've stopped for a week now and I'm really not missing it (yet). Good luck

What method did you use to give up?

My friend just tried to give up using hypnosis AND patches. She spent almost 100 quid on the hypnosis, which basically told her she wasn't a smoker so she didn't need nicotine. She then decided to "back-up" with patches which kinda defeated the object. Her poor brain must have been thinking "if I'm not a smoker, why am I slapping nicotine on myself?".
Needless to say, she is now smoking again.

I think she'd have been fine on the hypnosis alone, but guess we'll never know.

When I gave up, I used Allen Carr's books and I think they are just fab. He makes you use your mind to combat the physical symptoms and it works.

Don't beat yourself up about it. There's always another day to try.
And there must be a million ways to give up. So just chill out, be nice to yourself, and have a *** for me!!

forgive yourself and try again,
My top tip is to break your habits and smoke randomly. e.g. stop having a cigarette after meals or with a cup of tea as when you quit these will be the times you miss smoking the most.
Keep trying - you can do it

Don't give up on yourself, leave it for a couple of days or weeks, then try again. Maybe this was not the right time to give up.

Go to your doctor for advice, if you live in England they have helplines for people who wish to give up, try them, might give you the extra support and guidance you need. Good Luck.

Ooooh and you were halfway through the worst of it!!! (Apparently the first week is the hardest)

You don't need to go it alone you know - every GP can offer all kinds of help and support...and there is the "gosmokefree"
website...link pasted for you...

Don't need it myself...I'm a smoker who doesn't (yet) want to quit.
