That you are a very lucky person and you have a normal blood pressure. The 101 means that is the mm of mercury of pressure when the heart is contracted, and the 62 is the pressure right before it contracts the blood into the next chamber. I hope this helps.

Blood pressure is tha amount of pressure exerted by blood on the walls of your blood vessels at the contraction phase Systole and relaxation phase Diastole of the heartbeat and is measured in millimetres of mercurcury (MMHg). Therefore the above blood pressure means that pressure exerted was 101MMHg when the heart was contracting and 62 MMHg when the heart was resting between beats. The above reading sounds quite normal if your BP is normally around that level. PS I don't know what book firemedic has been reading but his physiological explanation is totally wrong.

Normal blood pressure is 120/80.
Anything over 160+ should be monitored; as high blood pressure can lead to all kinds of health problems including heart attacks and strokes.
However - there is NO medical evidence that a LOW blood pressure has any contra-indications to good health!
Ask me again when you are 97!

what about it? i have to know ur age, medical conditions, family history, a whole bunch of things. so what do u mean? 101/62 is normal for a 10-13year old, that number is also good for a very healthy but very skinny adult under 25 years old.
but if u really just want to know what the number means:
the top number measures how much work your heart is pumping to get enough pressure to get all the blood and oxygen out to the body. the bottom number is how much work the arteries are squeezing to pump it through the body.
be more specific and ask again if this doesn't help.

The top number is called systolic, it is a measure of the arterial pressure when the heart pumps, the bottom is the diastolic, when the heart relaxes.
Average BP in an adult is 120/80. Assuming you are not on treatment your blood pressure is a healthy, low normal. This would actually, ignoring any other factors that would increase risk, give you a below average heart attack and stroke risk.

Blood Pressure is a measurement of how open your blood vessels are. Low numbers means your heart does not have to work hard to get blood through. A good blood pressure is 115/75 or lower. The top number is systolic pressure, it measures pressure as your heart ejects blood. The bottom number is diastolic pressure, it measures pressure when your heart relaxes and prepares for the next pump. You can call ask a nurse, check phone book for number, or a doctors office if you want to ask if yours is to low. Get regular check ups and ask lots of questions.

It means that its just fine. 100/60 is a good blood pressure like mine. Congratulations, it means that you don't have high blood pressure. Check out the link below for details of what it actually means.. All the best and long may your reading stay normal...

That's a little on the low side but nothing to worry about if your systems, urinary, circulatory etc are working ok and you feel fine, not dizzy or faint then that's fine, but you may like to have it checked with your practice or GP nurse every now and again.
The optimal BP is considered to be 120/80. But the higher figure may increase with age some may consider this to be normal others may want to treat it to reducet the figures.
