My best friend is a diabetic. For months now, he has non-stop diarahrea...the doctors have told him to take all this pepto & metacuill...so he will bulk up...not when u have non-stop, 24/7 runs.
His stomach is shrinking due to the fact he is not able to eat. My question is : if his stomach is this messed up...what else can this problem be causing & why do they keep telling him to take all this metacuil?? sure, that will make him go ...but non-stop??

I have been going through this same problem and it suck. Irritable Bowel Syndrome is a symptom of Diabetes and the only way to help it is a strict diet.

He needs to get another Dr's advice first of all. Diabetes affects all a person's internal organs and if not treated properly can result in severe, if not deadly, effects. My husband passed away at the age of 35 from kedo-acidosis (an acute diabetic reaction resulting in complete shutdown of all organs) just 2 months after the local hospital released him for having the same symptoms you've described. Have your friend consult specialists that will treat the problem, not the symptom. Best wishes.

Something is seriously wrong. Get him to another doc or the ER to make sure. Just because you are diabetic doesn't mean you are supposed to have the runs. Diabetics have enuf problems without this one too. He has waited a long time, I wonder how he can leave his house or do anything like school or work. Be a best friend and insist he get help. IMHO, now.

Tell your friend he needs to see another doctor ASAP. He could die of dehydration if this is left unchecked. They want him to take fiber supplements so that he stool will pass more slowly and become more solid. If he has been doing what theyve recommended for months without progress its time for a new strategy.

Have your friend go to the emergency room
obviously his doctor is a quack! This condition can kill him and many people in 3rd world countries die of it due to dehydration. HE could have food poisioning
who knows
I am not a doctor but it is weird that a doctor would say that
please go with him to a doctor as soon as possible in the meantime keep him hydrated.

I would find a second opinion. It seems very strange that this has been going on for months.
And what does this have to do with being Diabetic?
