People with diabetes can eat whatever they want. The key is to learn to count carbs, learn how your medication effects your blood sugar , keep on testing your sugar and exercise.
Carbs are in much more than candy. They are not always in sweet foods only.Pasta, cereal, veggies and yes , fruit has carbos too.
Yes, PB&J is just fine.
It's all about the carbs.
Please take some time to educate yourself and work well with your doctor, dietitian and support team.
It will take some time but it is worth it.
You learn something every day !
Good luck.

Depends on the type of Diabetes that you have, If you have type 2 that you are treating with diet and exercise, you have to watch your carbohydrate intake only, as sugars are counted as carbohydrates on all food labels printed in the U.S as ALL sugars are carbohydrates, since those will make your blood glucose level go up.
If on the other hand, If you have either Type 1 or Type 2 that is treated with injections of insulin instead of exercise and dieting, eat whatever you want as long as for example, it isn't high in sodium if you have high blood pressure or isn't high in cholesterol if you have high levels of cholesterol etc., because if you are on insulin injections then diet and exercise doesn't matter at all!
I say that because the insulin injections should optimally be equal to how much insulin your pancreas would secrete if it was still functioning correctly, and people who have proper control of their insulin to carbohydrate ratio will be able to compensate for absolutely any amount of carbohydrate intake.
I have had Type 1 diabetes for +25 years and I would guess that on average I consume over 400 grams of sugar every day, and I have had absolutely no problems because of my diabetes and I am only ≈200 lbs, and the highest my B.G. has been in the past couple of months was a 247 when I had the flu.
So it depends only on what treatment you are on for your diabetes, not on what other stupid idiotic diet freaks tell you.

Depending the the regimen for control has a great deal to do with what a diabetic can eat.
I am currently on an Insulin Pump (which I LOVE) and I count carbohydrates. I don't look at the sugar content, just the carb grams. (And before anyone goes off on me---a candy bar will affect your blood sugar immediately and then your sugar level will go down--however, a baked potato will keep your blood sugar higher for longer.)

I'm a type 1 diabetic. I find that eating gum, mints, tictacs, etc. is fine if it is SOMEWHAT sugar free. Fast food is possible to eat if it is balanced with exercise or insulin. Regardless of this fact, no one should eat fast food, it's terrible for you. A diabetic can eat normal foods, as long as it is balanced. I think that diabetes is good because diabetics eat, what people should eat. For example, not a lot of sweets and carbs. IT is worse for a diabetic to eat, but it is still REALLY bad for anyone to eat.

It's not that they can't eat it, it's that they shouldn't... anything high in sugar is no good, unless you need something to raise your low blood sugar level, lifesavers candies are good for that
