This might be a stretch, but you might want to have your cardiac function checked. If you have cardiac insufficiency, you may have blood pooling in your lungs. You may also have those symptoms of "blood" flavor. When you spit up do your secretions look at all pink? Perhaps frothy?

You should probably consult your primary care giver and asks for a cardiac work-up. You should have at the least a 12-Lead EKG and perhaps a Trans-thoracic Echo (AKA 2D Echo).

I've included two links below for CHF and Pulmonary Edema. Read up on it, and give us an update.

See your doctor as soon as you can. He/she will get to the bottom of things. If he doesn't order a CBC (complete blood count) ask him to order one. It will detect some thing(s) that may be going on within your body, like low blood sugar, etc.

It sounds like this is new for you. I don't like to take chances and blow things off if there's someone who can give a good answer. But I'd rather you go see your own doctor and have him listen to things, take tests and give you a good educated guess than to watch you ask a bunch of us who are well meaning but really can't give you a good answer.
