INDIAN MENU FOR NEW COMERS-
Many Indian restaurants outside of India serve a good Indian food customized little bit to suit the palate of the local people. Go to any Indian restaurants during lunch buffet so that you can try little bit of everything (lunches are usually cheaper). It will depend on your own taste on what you will like. Many non-Indian like Naan, chicken and mango ice-cream or mango lassi.
For beginners, eating an Indian meal might be somewhat of problem let alone cooking a balanced Indian meal. Indian food is designed to be eaten with the group. Unlike western food, Indian food cannot be eaten or served without a combination. Thus, even though you like that curried vegetable or chutney, try not to eat it by itself. Combine it with rice or Indian bread or with other dishes. This will help you enjoy the meal more and will not give any digestion problems later.
There is basic rule about how to combine dishes to make a complete Indian meal. Each Indian meal should consist of starch (for example: rice and/or Indian bread), one or more main dishes (for example: meat dish or fish dish, or a lentil and vegetable combination) and some kind of chutney. Usually two vegetables and/or lentil dish will be served with meal; one ‘wet’ with lots of soup and one ‘dry’. For a simple meal there will be only few varieties of dishes while for an elaborate parties or festivals, more variety of them are prepared.

I've never met anyone who didn't like chicken tikka masala (unless they were vegetarian, of course). Serve with Basmati rice, naan, and a salad of sliced cucumbers and tomatoes sprinkled with chopped cilantro. I don't know where you live, but if there is a Trader Joe's near you, you can get very good masala sauce in a jar, and naan that only needs reheating, so it makes for a very quick and simple meal. Actually it's what I'm having tonight. Good luck!

This question has been asked "hazaar" times!
It depends on the restaurant & personal preferences.
Best is to ask the waiter for suggestions & combine that with your own tastes. I am sure it will be delicious no matter what is ordered. Next time, try different dishes.

Idly, Dosa, Naan, Roti, Paneer... these r good for starters..coz they contain less spice. Once they start liking it then go for hot spicy khana.

Tandori chicken, probably spelled wrong, is awesome! It's mild for those who don't like lots of spices and may get them to try more. I'd start with that.
