My husband has high blood pressure and has been on meds for it for 2 years now. He just went to the doctor yesterday and its still high so they increased his med intake.
We have no insurance so the meds are getting quite costly so I am posting the following question..............
? What ways can you suggest to lower blood pressure via foods or what not. He would love to be able to get off the meds.
Thanks for any and all helpfull answers. :-)

1. Lose weight if he is overweight.

2. Cut out the salt in his diet. If you used any canned foods, or if he eats/drinks dairy, he's getting more than enough salt. Empty your salt shakers and greatly limit canned foods and TV dinners that contain tons of salt.

3.Stop smoking, if he smokes. That should actually be #1.

4. Exercize. He can help make his arteries more "elastic" by doing some cardio on a regular basis.

5. Drink plenty of water to help flush the system.

6. Get 8 hours of sleep a night. Recent studies have shown that lack of sleep increases HTN and heart problems. Does your husband snore? Sleep apnea can also cause High BP.

7. Whatever he does, do not stop taking the medication. Kidney failure and stroke are a lot more expensive to deal with than your prescription bill. You can ask your doctor if he has samples, and ask your pharmacist if he has information on some of the reduced and free medication programs out there.

I am a 42 year male with high blood pressure. Mind you, I also run 4-5 miles a day, am not overweight (5'10" 168), don't smoke and recently stopped intake of any alchohol, not even light beer. I do not eat fast food, and gobble every fruit and veggie I can find... so why do I have high blood pressure? Genetics. Simple as that. My father and mother both have it. I went to my Doctor who said that what I am doing -- a healthy lifestyle -- is the best thing I can do to CONTROL my blood pressure. It now occasionally is 120/80 but other times (most times) is 140/100. That is better than it was, but it takes discipline. Good luck.

Maybe no plants, excercise to absort nitro-oxigen better than medicine for treating hypertension. In turn, some plants like Cassia bark [best answer] actually can hyper BP while hawthorn leaf/flower tea is known helping mild hypertension but not as strong as pills.

Any medicine still have to follow a strict diet without alcohol, caffein, 200mg salt (science academy), and reduce blood SUGAR, cholesterol, weight generally.

Wal-Mart seems the low cost solution and convenient.

I know of a few herbal type supplements that people swear works, but it sounds like your husband needs something more then herbal supplements.

Did you know that Wal Mart has a list of meds ranging from blood pressure to mental health medications that can be purchased from them for $4.00 a prescription. Yes $4.00.
If you go to Wal Mart and ask for their list...look to see if you see your husbands medication on that list....all of these are generic medications. Wal Mart will only fill your prescription if it is listed on that list and if it is the exact same dosage as listed on this list. If you get a copy of this list and you cannot match the blood pressure medication to the one prescribed, I am sure you can call your doctor, and explain your situation. Let him look at the blood pressure medications on the Wal Mart list and ask him to prescribe your husband the one that would be best suited for him.

You say he wants to get off the medications, but please get his blood pressure under control first. Diet and exercise will help lower blood pressure too. I hoped this helped....good luck.

Why in the hell would you do that!! Even putting a heater in there if it tips over and catches fire..what a horrible death..Why did you get a dog to freeze it to death outside?? Do you wear a winter coat?? Do you have the heat on in the house when it's cold?? Do you sleep under the covers where it's nice and cozy?? Your dog deserves better. Why have a dog to leave it in a cold shed, give it away,do the poor thing a favor and give it tp someone that will love him and treat him as he should be treated.Your awful
