How would he have kept warm and dry and clean? Would he have taken a tent? Maybe a blanket? How about extra clothing? (Did they use flint back then for making fire?) What would have been the bare necessities (besides the Scriptures).

The Holy Spirit. It came upon Him when He was baptised and directly afterwards He left to the wilderness to fast and be tested. The "sword" He took with Him for protection was the Word. The verses of the Scripture. By wielding the Scripture like a sword, He was able to thwart and fight any trials and temptations that came upon Him during this time.

was it an elk call, a bottle of scent killer, a hunting knife, a canteen of water(fasting is only for food),a grumend GPS navigator, and a 7.62x54r nagant rifle with a 8x scope and a bandalier of ammo?
LOL ok so I am beeing a smart a$$ but hey this is the hunting page not the religion page.
Truthfully I would have to agree with; The word of God as a sword, and while Jesus did not"bring" satan he did come along for the trip(satan probably brought the hunting gear) to do some tempting....or so says my sunday school teacher...I think Its really been awhile.

As I recall, Satan.
...Who proceeded to test his will with earthly temptations.

By the way, "forty days and forty nights" was an ancient Hebrew term meaning, "it was quite a while, but no-one's sure exactly how long it actually was" ... The Hebrew equivilent of "many -moons".

You'd probably have a lot better luck getting answers under the Religion heading.

If he was going to fast, why did he need to take anything with him.

Probably his ipod, GPS and cell phone though. That would be my guess.
