For me doesn't matter if it's long or short grain, but I'd rather have brown rice , since it has not been processed and therefore is the healthiest option of rice.
I make rice by putting a little oil with garlic and spices and then once it's browned up I add the water, it helps the rice not be sticky.

Depends on what kind of meal you are looking at: The Indian extra-long grain Basmati rice is ideal for daily use since it is low in carbs and easily digested. But this variety has a mild fragrance which might not go well with certain types of side-dishes. My experience with Thai Jasmine Rice was not as good since it tends to make me gain weight. Same with Australian Calrose rice. While I rank Basmati as No-1, you can also try Ma-Ling's US-Style Paraboiled Rice, from China. This rice however needs a bit longer to cook and requires extra water to make it soft. Excellent too for health.

The best rice i've had is Basmati, long and thin grain. Other than that, Jasmine rice is good too! It often depends on the recipes that you use them to.

I love whole grain rice. I love it just boiled, but not sticky or mushy. It has to be a little al dente to suit my taste. If i give you the trade mark, I don't thing you'll find it in the US, but it's called Florida Bell. Florida Bell is Serbian company, but it only packages and distributes Asian rice.

I like basmati rice for Indian food, jasmine rice with asian food--and I love all the long wild grains mixed with herbs, cooled and thrown into a salad--they add a nice gritty crunchy/chewy texture--and taste great with gorgonzola cheese crumbles...Oh--brown rice of all kinds is nice too--lots of flavor and texture...

The best rice (white) I have had so far is Bario (from Bario, Bakalalan, or Long Pa Sia). Absolutely amazing! Then I like 'tadong', which is a dark-red glutinous rice from Sabah, verry full in its aroma, or simply hill rice (which we plant and eat every day...). Sorry, no brand, just own hard work!
