These are the most common ways herpes (cold sores and genital herpes) are spread:

1. Having sex with someone who has the virus (vaginal sex, oral sex, or anal sex)

2. DIRECT skin to skin contact with the infected area of a person who has them

3. Kissing someone who has cold sores (sharing chap stick, lip stick, drinks, cigarrettes and basically anything a person with cold sores has had their lips on can spread cold sores too)

4. Being born with the virus

Remember genital herpes can be spread even if the guy is wearing a condom. Condoms are NOT 100% effective in preventing STDs. Genital herpes can be spread by just direct skin to skin contact. So, even if the guy is wearing a condom it is NOT covering his whole genital area, it is only covering his penis. The skin rubbing back and forth of the genital area during sex is enough to spread the virus! Also, herpes can be spread even when there are no sores present. A person can be "shedding". Shedding is when a person is able to spread herpes but is showing no signs or symptoms of the virus (like sores).

I got clinically diagnosed with genital herpes (type 2) about 5 years back, whilst I was still attending college and had a silly one-night stand. I know lots of people say this, but I swear I had never done that sort of thing before. I just made a huge mistake that one time and suddenly I felt like I was going to have to live with the consequences for my entire life. The worst part was feeling I could never date guys again. After all, who wants to go out with a girl who has sores round her "you know what" area? But since a friend shared this movie https://tr.im/gNgQp everything changed.

Not only was I able to remove all remnants of the herpes simplex virus from my body in less than 21 days, but I was also able to begin dating again. I even met the guy of my dreams and I'm so fortunate to write that just a week ago, in front of everybody in a busy restaurant, he got down on one knee and proposed to me! This method provided the opportunity to be happy and experience true love again. Now I hope that I can help others too by sharing this story.

From having sex with someone who has it- direct contact. Also beware of this: if someone has a fever blister (another form of Herpes) and they give you oral sex, you can get genital herpes. If you already have it, see your doctor for a prescription to decrease the frequency and severity of outbreaks, Also, I am prone to fever blisters, but a few years ago started taking L-Lysine every day (an amino acid which can be purchased at any place that sells vitamins) and have not had a fever blister since. I assume that it would help with genital herpes too.

Before I answer your question, i want to explain how people (men, women, children) get herpes. Generally skin to skin contact will infect if one has herpes simplex virus lesion/sore or virus presenting on the skin without having symptoms or lesion. with/without knowingly of passing this virus to the others, one can pass the virus to others. It's a viral infection and there isn't cure for herpes although it can be treated. once it's healed, left no scar. Therefore, you wouldn't know if a person has herpes or not by just looking for a scar. men and women mostly get genital herpes (herpes in the genital area caused by either HSV1 or HSV2) by sexual activities including intercouse, rubbing, touching skin to skin.Children can get herpes when they are born (from the mother) or someone who has cold sore lesion kiss them or touch the sore and touch the child's skin. People who have HIV can have severe herpes symptoms. Herpes can be spread to the other parts of the skin on the body and so, do not touch the sore and touch other areas on the skin. it's called self reinfection.
So, to answer your question, there are many ways a women can get herpes.
but the main point is skin to skin contact!

From contact with the body fluids of someone who has it. Usually this is a sex partner.....but can also be passed from mother to child during birth. As someone else said....you can also contract the oral version on the genitals/ and vice versa.
