There are no limitations as to when you should exercise, that I know of. I exercise WHILE eating during lunch. I kill two birds with one stone, so to speak. I eat my lunch while getting my noontime walk. Exercise is the single best thing a type 2 diabetic can do for themselves. More on my diabetes info page:

It is better to exercise right after the meal. If you wait too long, you might need to "carb" up before you exercise.

http://www.lifeclinic.com/focus/diabetes/exercise.asp says
If you plan to exercise more than an hour after eating, it's a good idea to have a snack. Generally, it's good to have a high-carbohydrate snack such as six ounces of fruit juice or half of a plain bagel.

If you're doing heavy exercise such as aerobics, running or handball, you may need to eat a bit more such as a half of a meat sandwich and a cup of milk.

If you haven't eaten for over an hour or if your blood sugar is less than 100 to 120, eat or drink something like an apple or a glass of milk before you exercise. Carry a snack with you in case of low blood sugar.

If you use insulin, exercise after eating, not before. Test your blood sugar before, during and after exercising. Don't exercise when your blood sugar is more than 240.

If you're not an insulin user, test your blood sugar before and after exercising if you take pills for diabetes.

With the newer types of insulin these days, diabetic diets aren't necessarily as restrictive as they used to be. Read here https://tr.im/PIMT6
As with any medicine or diet change, you should discuss it with your doctor. Fruits, both fresh and dried, have a natural sugar in them that will raise blood sugar levels, so be careful about eating too much. Not sure about the nuts. Moderation is always the key. I've been diabetic for 18 years and just recently changed insulin types. I love it because it gives me more freedom in when and what I eat.

My diabetes educator told me 90 minutes later is best. That is when your food is realy kicking in (turning into sugar) But she also said if it is ideal for you to walk right after then go ahead.

You should always go for a walk right after you eat to keep your metabolism up. It stimulates the pancreas to make insulin.
