My Grandad has been referred to the Cariologist because he has a fast heart rate and has also been diagnosed with anaemia. He's 75 - could it be fatal? He's not overweight and I would've said he was generally quite healthy. Can someone tell me a bit more if they can - thanks.

when you are anemic your heart rate speeds up to compensate for the lower amounts of O2 that your blood is carrying. Anemia is a symptom of a problem, the dr. will find out why he is anemic, treat the cause and his heart will improve.

anaemia means he has a low iron count in his blood which for a 75 year old could be fatal if they hurt themselves. A fast heart rate could have something to do with his anaemia.

Anaemia is curable by eating foods high in iron (greens) and taking iron vitamins. I was anaemica for a long time and still am on/off, but I'm younger. It's really important he eats lots of green veggies and stuff like that to help keep his iron level stable.

The reason why I say it could be fatal b/c a few months ago when we got hit with all the snow storms in the midwest my friends grandmother slipped on some ice in the grocercy store parking lot and dislocated her shoulder. They took her to the hospital and they had to do surgery on the shoulder. When they did the blood test they found out she was anaemic. They couldn't operate until the iron level was back to normal...they tried a blood transfusion and operated. She died within 48 hrs of the operation b/c her blood had trouble clotting.

Anemia in a male points to gasto-intestinal bleeding or to poor diet. The fast heart rate could be to compensate for the poor oxygen supply caused by the anemia or it could be from a cardiac condition.
It will be up to his doctor to figure out how serious his problems are.
