There is no way to lump all vegetarians into one religious category. Just like you can't lump omnivores into one category.
Seventh Day Adventists (Christians) are vegetarians. They do not eat 'refined' foods, which include meat, as it is not part of God's original diet. The also believe that the body is God's temple and should not be soiled or defiled. http://www.ivu.org/history/adventists/white.html
Buddhists advocate vegetarianism because they believe in Mercy and Karma. http://www.ivu.org/religion/articles/buddhist.html
Hindus are often vegetarian because they believe in non-violence. This includes violence towards towards animals. Killing is killing and creates a 'bound' karma. http://www.ivu.org/news/march2000/hinduism.html
Vegetarianism even has it's place in Judaism, Islam, traditional Christianity, Quakerism, etc.
Of course, there are also agnostic and atheist vegetarians.

Vegetarians belong to all religious groups you can think of and not eating meat has nothing to do with beliefs. You could ask the other way around however. Practicing Buddhists and Hindus normally do not eat meat.

same as meat eaters, some do, some dont. Being a vegetarian has nothing to do with my spirit or religion. I educated myself to the facts of how unhealthy and unsanitary meat is, and how horribly animals raised for food are treated, and made an educated decision to not continue to eat decaying, dead flesh. Meat is full of nasty stuff, and my common sense tells me by body is better off without added growth hormones, steroids, antibiotics, pus, urine, and all of the other nasty stuff in meat. Most people remain blissfully ignorant to the truth about meat. Even people who could care less about the animals don't chose to learn whats really in meat. For me, its strictly common sense and compassion. Nothing should have to bleed and die in order for me to fulfill my own selfish desires.

being a vegetarian does not necessarily have anything to do with what religion a person chooses to belong to.
