He desperately needs a female friend who can be comforting and nurturing to him during this time of loss -- a friend who can keep the line between friendship and lovers as thick as a brick wall.

If you can resist the urge to have sex with him, and feel that you are capable of keeping him from going down that road with you also, then you're a candidate for his recovery.

It will not be easy because compassion can easily be mistaken for passion, and your sisterly love for him can easily be construed as erotic love.

So, remember the difference between the two kinnds of love, Brotherly Love and Erotic Love, and keep it locked into the former and away from the latter.

He just wants someone to comfort him. Just be there for him for now until he gets over his lost love. I guess if you want something more from him, then move on & don't hope for anything more from him to prevent you from getting hurt or confused. But stay with him to comfort him, because when the time comes and you need someone to comfort yourself, he'll be there. Be his friend for now and nothing more.

He is yearning for companionship -in the mostly platonic sense. he is definitely well into healing. Please don't confuse his plans with you for romantic interests unless he says he is looking for more. This is a very confusing time for him. Please honor this time of healing and just be his friend.
