Whoa, that answer you got from the previous poster was TOTALLY wrong.

Sexually-transmitted chlamydia is NOT a skin infection. It is a bacteria that infects the reproductive tract. Chlamydia thrives in moist places, like mucosa (vaginal, cervical, ocular).

It can incubate for about 3 to 21 days. That means it'll be 3 to 21 days before you can show up positive on a test. A week following initial infection should be long enough to yield an accurate test result. Usually the test is done on a urine sample, but the doctor can also swab the cervix and do a culture.

Chlamydia is a bacteria that lives on the skin's surface, so really it can show up as soon as you've been infected. It would be more likely that a test wouldn't miss the infection after a week or so, however, as is true with most infections!
