I want to start off by saying that I am a physician, and that the blood pressure reading you took is not a normal resting blood pressure. It's not problematic if that was taken after running a mile but it doesn't sound like you did that.
First and foremost you need to take a blood pressure reading at multiple times a day for about a week. You might be taking the readings incorrectly so have someone help you out if possible.
If those readings are indeed accurate, and that number is your resting blood pressure, then you have a moderate to severe level of hypertension (high blood pressure). What is recommended in these cases are a healthy diet (low, low sodium) and plenty of exercise with the goal of weight loss. Because your diastolic pressure (the bottom number) is so high, you will most likely need to be put on a blood pressure medication. I would suggest a diuretic but you should see your primary care doctor to see what he recommends. You don't need to see a cardiologist unless your primary care doctor thinks you should.
Of course what you want to do in the end is find out why your blood pressure is high. Most cases are idiopathic (we don't know the reason) but there are some very, very serious causes for elevated blood pressure that should be ruled out with some basic tests. Your family doctor should be able to assess all of this.

3 years ago, I was diagnosed - hypertension with a reading of 160/100. I used to feel dizzy a lot, my legs had awful cramps, and levels were very low in my potassium, causing my fingers and toes to always cramp together. One day I started to feel really faint while I was driving with my daughter in the back seat and I passed out, hitting 3 cars and ending up in a ditch. That moment,I knew I had to do something because my meds weren't working. I heard about this diet from a friend and thought I'd give it a shot. The results have been remarkable. In just 21 days, I honestly can't remember feeling this good, my blood pressure went from 175/110 to 125/70.

It cannot be said, good or bad, with a single measurement. That might be darn good assuming you ran around the block or the machine was incorrectly reading high.
You need literally, hundreds of measuements to determine blood pressure. That is an indirect measurement which attempts to determine the pressure in your arm atery which is buried about 1 inch deep in the arm itself. So the best science can do is to take an indirect reading and lots of them to determine your blood pressure.
Take a lot of reading, never , repeat any. and take them several hours apart and for a whole two weeks. Write them down add them up. and average them. That is a good indicator of your pressure.
Should it be like 130 or more. Go see a doc otherwise youl destroy your internal organs, like kidneys and heart arteries and valves. So this is serious business. Act on it now.

Heres the scale 120/80 optimal, 130/85 normal, high normal 130-139 85-89, stage 1 hypertension mild 140-159 90-99, stage2 hypertinsion moderate 160-179 100-109, stage 3 hypertension (severe) 180/110. Well looking at your results I would say your almost at stage2 and should see a doctor as soon as possible.

A healthy blood pressure reading sor someone of your age group particular should be below 140/90. That reading is quite high although not dangerously so. Had you been under any amount of stress or running & jumping about previous to taking your bp? My bp could quite eaily go upto this level & possibly higher if i am quite anxious about taking it. If you were fully relaxed for at least 10 minutes before taking your bp & you had this reading then i think you should see a doctor but don't panic is blood pressure is common & it can easily be brought down, in many cases without medication so see your doctor if still concerned.

Take your blood pressure in the morning and
then again before you go to bed. If it continues
to be that high, you ought to see about it.
Normally pressure should be about 130/80
and that is border line. Higher than that you
should get it checked by a doctor or nurse.

That's not good and you should find your way to a cardiologist immediately! That is a sure sign of something wrong and could have lethal consequences!
