No and again I've noticed I get this problem. I've had it since i've ever known, I seem to be bunged up and can't seem to breathe as well through the one nostril. What do you think causes this? Is it just the way my sinus is? It's never caused a problem but I just wondered is it common?

Yes, it is common. I find that in humid weather, my sinuses tend to clog on one side - either side, it's not always the same. And I will go to sleep breathing through one nostril and wake up breathing through the other, so don't worry about it - I've had this for over seventy years, and I'm cool!

Actually all people have it. Read on:

"Most of the time, one nostril breathes freely while the other is partly constricted inside. They typically alternate every ninety minutes or so as the brain hemispheres switch dominance for this function. If you pay careful attention to this process, you may discover that your state of mind and mood vary according to which side is breathing more freely. Yogis have developed exercises to keep the left nostril open because the mind usually seems more sattvic -- more calm and insightful -- when the left nostril's hemisphere is calling the shots."

The paragraph is from an article called:
An Exercise For Reducing Visual Hemispheric Dominance

You may be suffering from nasal polyps. Believe it or not they are very common obstructions of the nasal/sinus passages. I suggest going to an ENT and having it checked out. If so, there are steroid treatments to attempt at shrinking the polyps, and if that doesn't work you may have to go get a catscan to see how complex your polyps are. Ambulatory surgery is an option and from what i've heard is rather painless (hoping so as I will be going in for it soon.) Best of luck :-)

I have this as well. All my life! Cant stand it but cant help it either. I am sure it is a deviated septum but am not too keen on the way they fix it... very gross. The only time it ever clears is when I excercise but at times I find it hard to breath at all! I find that dry air is worse than humid air for me.

go see your doc.....if you have broken your nose(like i have 9 times from boxing) you could have a deviated septum...the cartlidge is bent....or an inner ear problem could cause it as well...i still have the problem....daily...hourly.....good luck
