So many different things can cause a chronic cough. Did you have a cold a few months ago? If it's not that, it could be allergies. Try a combination decongestant/antihistamine to see if it helps. If not, it also could be asthma that hasn't been diagnosed yet. It happens. Do you ever wheeze or also become short of breath? Both signs of asthma. You could also have TB. Have you had a TB test lately? You should get one every year. I'd try the decongestant. If that doesn't work, make an appt. with your Doctor.

You don't say if you smoke or if you have recently given up smoking either of these could be the reason. You don't mention where you live but in certain countries there is a problem with TB.Though the symptoms for this are not just a dry chesty cough. It could be you have picked a "virus". Try to boost your immune system. What is your work environment like? You have to visit the doctor its the first step to sort it out. I wish you well and hope you have a speedy recovery.

Mate, I have had exactly the same thing since January. It started when I had a bit of a bender for my birthday, which happened also to be the day I packed in the ciggies.

Ever since, I have had this dry cough which occasionally disappears for a day or two, and then reappears. Nothing seemed to get rid of it.

Last week, under pressure from my mum, I went to see the doc. After poking around for a while with mirrors, he diagnosed a bacterial infection at the back of my throat (too far down for antibacterial mouth washes). He gave me some antibiotics and more cough medicine. But I still have the cough.

So I am going back to see him again tonight. I'll let you know what happens. (I'll probably get another course of antibiotics).

Go see the doc mate.

If you smoke, then that's the number one reason why you are coughing right now. But if not? well, i think your body lacks vitamin C. I also experienced coughing even more than 2 months. I took different kinds of medicines but the cough is still there. One day a friend of mine asked me if I drink Vitamin C everyday and I said no, after that I tried to drink Vitamin C..in just 3 days my cough was gone. Just try it! Vitamin C is very important for our body to stay healthy.

Dry coughs are mostly due to smoking, asthma, dust, foreign matter, pollution, and climate-controlled buildings. Heating and cooling systems dry the air and your respiratory membranes. Heating/cooling systems is the cause of my cough. Walking into or out of a building I cough. If I'm indoors to long with a central unit on I start coughing.

Do you smoke or are you around people who do smoke? Dry hacking coughs are normally caused because of smoking or an Allergy. You may want to go see a Doctor about this . If its an allergy, you are gonna need meds.

I go by the rule of thumb that a one off cough for 4 weeks necessitates a chest X-ray. It may be as simple as a period of lung irritability with a cold, or an atypical infection , but even rarities like T.B. need excluded.

Get yourself some cough medicine or tablets with 'lobelia' in the ingredients. Then, if it hasn't improved after a week, go see a doctor.

No, I do not know whats wrong. This is because I am not a doctor. Probably just a chest infection but see a doctor in case you need antibiotics.

Good grief...BEEN THERE. Took me 2 years to get the right diagnosis. Inquire about sarcoidosis. That's what my diagnosis is. Tests for this disease include chest x-ray, cat scan, pulmonary function tests. Hang in there. :)
