Stay away from slenda or equal. They are poisons synthetically put together in a chemical lab. Use Stevia instead, which is an herb typically made into a white powder.
Stevia is perfect for diabetics since it completely replaces sugar.
You can find it at your local natural food store.

I've actually recommended this book before, and have my old, dog-eared copy still on my bookshelf from days long ago. It's called 'recipes for Diabetics" by Billie Little (Bantam Books), and contains lots of great recipes for cooking and baking "sugar-free" dishes (I especially love the Banana Cream Pie recipe). Check with the local book store, I know the larger chains like Borders and Barnes and Noble carry it. Best of luck!

You can use "No sugar added" applesauce for cookies. I have also had the gastric bypass and have been off my meds for almost 3 years for my diabetes. I use Splenda a lot. They also make the brown sugar blend. It is part Splenda and part brown sugar.

I'm a diabetic too- I found russell stover makes a sugar free breakfast bar that comes in apple cinnamon, cinnamon bun, blueberry and regular chewy granola--not bad at all--

but you can try making your own using splenda- and it's easy- just substitute equally what the recipe calls for sugar, use splenda and it also comes in brown sugar too...

it makes great apple pies..............yum
