Why don't you make her some, instead of using sugar use splenda.

I have tried sugar free deserts and I don't bother with them. I would rather eat a small piece of the real thing then the sugar free stuff. I do eat sugar free pudding and jello but for cake and cookies and ice cream I take a smaller portion of the real thing. But I am a type 1 and I can do that as long as I adjust my insulin. My birthday was last week my 10 year old son made me a 2-layer real cake all by himself

If eaten as part of a healthy meal plan, or combined with exercise, sweets and desserts can be eaten by people with diabetes. They are no more “off limits” to people with diabetes, than they are to people without diabetes. Your mom just has to keep an eye on her glucose level, and adjust medication accordingly. If you're still worried, you can always buy a angle food cake, and serve with cut strawberries and homemade whipped cream, sweetened with Splenda or other artifical sweetener; sort of a strawberry shortcake, or use another type of fruit to your liking. Hope your mom has a Happy Birthday!

Just ask your local bakery for a sugar free or low sugar cake. If you are not sure if they offer those just call and ask.
