Like clear, white, yellow, green and brown? Is the colour specific to the type of infection, viral or bacterial?

Clear or slightly yellow could signify a viral infection or allergy. Green or brown is most likely bacterial. Antibiotics do nothing for a viral infection and even with a mild bacterial infection you may not need an antibiotic. Clinical protocols are now recommending that antibiotics not be given for bacterial infections and allowing the body to fight the infection on it's own. The bacteria have become so resistant to ordinary antibiotics that second and third generation drugs are needed to fight simple infections once cured by them. Sorry maybe too much information for your question.

Yellow or green is an indication of an infection. White is usually an allergic reaction. Brown is usually old dry blood.
