You're describing what is medically called dysphagia, which basically means difficulty swallowing. Dysphagia may be caused by obstructions in the esophagus, such as "webs" (upper esophagus) or Schiatzki ring (lower esophagus). What you're describing sounds a lot like the Schiatzki ring -- in fact, they've even called it "steakhouse syndrome", because people tend to swallow large pieces of steak that cannot pass by the ring obstruction -- sounds like a pretty classic presentation to me! I would see your doctor to find out how occluded the esophagus is, and what the best course of action is.

If I were you I'd try this; a teaspoon of oil (maybe vegetable oil) swallow it and see if it might coat the meat enough to go down. Bread or very warm liquid helps with some caught foods but on steak it probably wouldn't help. You may be a person who needs to have the esophagus stretched. That's a common procedure for problems like yours.

I was eating some soup two nights ago when I got a bean stuck in my throat. No matter how hard to tried to swallow it down, it stayed there and made my throat sore and gave me a blister. Its a drag but I think it really pays to chew our food thoroughly.

Try chewing each bite 28 times before you swallow. Try smaller bites and avoid dry foods.
