Oh Yeah. My father and grandfather loved them. It is a smoked fish, mum used to poach them in milk for the two of them. Smelt a lot, but I have to admit that they are pretty good. Of course, most people eat cruddy sugar-y cereals for brekkie these days, or dull old toast. But kippers are from the days when breakfast was a real MEAL. Very traditional!

Kippers are not little fish - that is something else which I can't think of the name right now!!!
A kipper is any fish, but usually a herring that has been preserved by being treated with salt and then with smoke.
Smoked kippers are sometimes eaten for breakfast but it is not as common now as it used to be.
It is still often offered as a choice in British hotels.

Kippers are better than blueberry muffins and coffee from Starbucks!
I used to have kippers as a child and they were fantastic. They are about 8" wide by 10" Long (gutted and opened out flat) and the best way to cook them is the scottish way. You put them in a jug of boiling water and seal them for about 10 minutes.
I'm sure the ones you get now are really salted and not properly smoked unless it's from a specialist!

Beauty is in the eye of the beholder... in the usa they eat bacon (pig) and eggs (unborn chickens) for breakfast.. I think fish is a good alternative..
It used to be an "eat what you have world" when the kippered herring for breakfast took sprout. My grandfather ate them but then he was a sea captain and prone to what ever could be safely stored on a ship for a long haul.
One of my favorite breakfasts is creamed salted cod (kippered cod) on potatoes. with some toast and tea.. yummy

Yes but not on a day to day basis. Often associated with the scots who do make damn fine kippers.
Kippers are smoked fish. You eat them poached (frying stinks the house out for days) or 'boiled in a bag' with plenty of buttered toast.
Its very nice, honest!

The British Isles are famous for multiple-course breakfasts. A wide array of meats is always in evidence: bacon, sausage, grilled kidneys, mutton chops. There are also eggs in profusion, grilled tomato and mushrooms, oatmeal or cold cereal, various smoked fish, in addition to tea and coffee. Baked goods may include assorted buns, crumpets, and brown bread with butter, honey, jam, or marmalade. There is absolutely always toast. The culinary influence of England's centuries of rule in India is visible at breakfast where kedgeree (originally khichri, a dish of lentils, rice and spices to which the English added smoked haddock, eggs, and cream), hoppers (originally the rice pancakes known as appam), and mango chutney ("chutney" is the Hindi word for relish) all make an appearance.

I grew up eating kipper on toast with lemon juice. My dad always made it on Sun mornings and it was the best.

It's one of those very traditional English breakfast meals... Like fried tomatoes and whatever. They're tiny little fish... And they're not so good. But people do eat them for breakfast, on toast.
