It can be a low fat dish if you do it properly. It depends how much you're willing to stretch the definition of "lasagna." What's fattening about it? The cheese! Also the pasta itself isn't exactly packed with nutrients.

How about spinach noodles, low fat cottage cheese, yummy spices, yummy veggies, and no meat?

It can be done very tastefully and without much fat.

That type of lasagna is just as delicious, but not nearly as calorie-laden as the pre-made meat lasagna you buy and stick in the microwave.

Not in the traditional sense. If you were to make it with low fat cheese (or no cheese) and veggies instead of meat then it would be lower fat. Use whole wheat pasta to make the carbs contain a little nutrients, and then it becomes almost healthy. There is also turkey italian sausage available to make it a little leaner if you really want a meat lasagne.

Not usually--it has lots of carbs --many layers of pasta--and usually has loads of cheese--if it has veggies or meat--it is still usually layered with cheese or ricotta cheese--and even cream, etc...it is YUM...but not what I'd call a diet food, unless you get a weight watchers or other diet brand's frozen food meal or something--and then it doesn't taste the same...it is a good hearty meal--again--YUM...if you want to make it low fat you can substitute low fat products all the way through--but it still wouldn't be low calorie simply because of having so many ingredients in such a dense way--all the ingredients are packed together so--even if it's low-fat--it will be a lot of calories...Just enjoy it!

Most dishes can have a low fat alternative. Its all in the ingredients you choose and the way you prepare them.

Lasagna would be one meal that can be made low fat and tastes incredible!!!! here is a guideline of what might work.

Ingredients:
Low carb pasta.
Tomato with herbs
Vegetables- mushrooms, onions, celery, spinach
Cottage Cheese (low fat)
Mozzarella (Partly Skimmed)
Seasonings to taste

VERY low fat.

Low Fat Vegetable Lasagna

This meatless, low-fat lasagna is chock full of colorful vegetables, making this a healthy and nutritious supper dish. You can even prepare this vegetable lasagna ahead of time and refrigerate it until you're ready to cook. If you do, let the lasagna stand at room temperature for 20-30 minutes before placing it in the oven.
INGREDIENTS:
2 tsp olive oil
1 garlic clove, crushed
1 medium onion, finely chopped
1 1/2 cups cremini mushrooms, sliced
1 celery stalk, chopped
1 medium carrot, diced
1 medium zucchini, chopped
1 yellow squash, chopped
1 28-ounce can crushed tomatoes
2 tbsp tomato paste
1 tsp oregano or mixed Italian herbs
Freshly ground black pepper
2 handfuls baby spinach salad leaves, roughly chopped
1 15-ounce tub fat-free or low fat ricotta
8-ounces no-cook lasagna noodles
3/4 cup reduced fat shredded mozzarella cheese
PREPARATION:
Preheat oven to 375 degrees, and coat an 11 X 7-inch baking dish with nonstick cooking spray.
Heat oil in a large saucepan. Sauté garlic for 1 minute, followed by onion, mushrooms, celery, carrots, zucchini and squash.

Gently sauté for 10 minutes until vegetables are softened. Add tomatoes, tomato paste, herbs and some black pepper. Bring to a boil, then reduce to a simmer for 10 minutes. Stir in spinach.
Spread a cup of sauce on the bottom of the baking dish. Top with noodles, followed by half the ricotta cheese; add another layer of sauce, followed by noodles and remaining ricotta cheese. Continue with remaining noodles and sauce, ending with sauce. Top with mozzarella and bake for 30 minutes. Serves 8.

Unfortunately no it isn't. Of course I do my best by substitute mozzarella cheese with part skim or skim but you can't do the same with the ricotta it will kill the flavor. Of course the pasta , mmmmm. I mean you don't eat it everyday and you can't eat that much in one sitting because it's very filling. Have a small portion..and go for it.

It canbe if you use ground turkey instead of beef, lowfat or fat free cheese and whole wheat pasta strips. Add some grilled veggies for bonus vitamins!

no because of all the starch and cheese but u can always go less on the ingredients and especially use a little bit of low fat cheese.

Traditionally--no not at all. But you can make it with low fat alternatives like lean beef, ground turkey, low fat cheese, etc.

No, definately not.
Have the minced meat and tomato sauce then yeah, but add the cheese and pasta, and unfortunately it should be far from anyone who is on a diet's plate.
