NO!! Chinese is NOT considered as fast food.. Fast food are foods like Mc Donalds, KFC or Pizza Hut... And Fast food are usually junk food that are oily n greasy.. I eat Chinese everyday in my life.. Does this mean that I'm eating fast food or junk food??? NO!!! If Chinese is fast food, Chinese will be over-weight!! Eating-in is just not taking out.. In other words, eating-in is just eating IN the restaurant while takeaway is just eating places other than the restaurant.. We call it "Ta-pau" in Chinese.. Heehee!!

There are types of Chinese food that are fast food. Usually the ones you get at fast food joints. Its the way you make it and the ingredients you use.
Fast food joints tend to use quick flavour enhancers such as MSG and poor quality ingredients for cost reduction and to stay competetive.
Restaurants tend to (not always) have more skilled and trained chefs who are more conscious on food quality and more effort put towards preparing the dishes.
Choose your dishes based on how its made and the ingredients. Can always request for less oil or no MSG if you choose to eat healthier!

Well--if you go to a little place and eat oily greasy Chinese food on the go--yes--it is fast food--it is junky--etc-But China is an ancient, very civilized culture --they are very into formal eating and dining, etc..so if you go to a nice restaurant and order healthy foods--no--it is NOT junk or fast food--it's like going to McD's for a burger--versus going to a nice restaurant and getting healthy food--well prepared, etc..China is a huge country with many kinds of food..it is only considered junk food or fast food if you buy it from a place that prepares it that way--in a fast quick style with lots of oil, etc...go somewhere where they prepare things carefully--dim sum is usually good--it is steamed..and there are MANY healthy Chinese dishes you could eat--many of them vegetarian...If you've got to give up the junky Chinese food for 6 months-here is your chance to start exploring quality Chinese food...have fun and good eating:)

In my opinion, fast food is something that they can prepare very fast and you can finish the meal also very fast. I do not consider real or homemade Chinese food is fast food as I'm a 100% Chinese living in Hong Kong.
But I do agree wonton mein / congee / chow mein or some deep fried food from hawkers' store are "fast food".

i would not classify Chinese (take out or eat in) as "fast food" - i think of burgers & fries (or fish & chips, since you mention "takeaway") or other foods sold at places like McDonalds, KFC, Taco Bell, etc... as fast food.
however, not all "Chinese" food is equall - some is more homogenized for American/UK consumption and really doesn't have the same health benefits that traditional Chinese cooking can.

...the takeaway and food court joints in shopping malls fall into the fast food category....authentic chinese food , in general, is of four types: spicy, salty, sweet, sour ( depending on the region )....hot pot you may enjoy - personally i like peking duck - fatty but oh so good!!!!...there is a saying in china something to the affect : " You are not a man until you have climbed the great wall " and something about eating roast duck - i forget - but that it must be done...

No, chinese food is not considered fast food.
In fact, it takes even more time to prepare than any other food.

I say that if it associates with a buffet, it's fast food.
If you dine in and wait for them to cook it, then dig right on in!
Good luck with your resolution =]
