My father in law had 6 stints put in 2 weeks ago and is now having shortness of breath not even going 15 feet. My mother in law thinks its common so she dosen't feel the need to call his dr. She had open heart surgery about 20 yeaes ago so she knows it all. She is afraid of spending money and says its from not smoking or withdrawls. I am very concerned.

I work with patients having stents and bypass. Your father in law needs to see his cardiologist(s) asap. Shortness of breath, especially after the heart problems he's just faced, could indicate that he has one of more of the stents blocked, congestive heart failure, or he may be having a heart attack. Everyone's symptoms are not the same. Shortness of breath is not something for your mother in law to balk at. It is serious. Best wishes!!

You are right to be concerned I have had 5 stents inserted 7years ago ,prior to the insertions I was very short of breath after wards and since I have been able to lead a very active life, shortness of breath is an indication that your heart is being starved of oxygen so some if not all of the stents are blocked perhaps by tiny blood clots, there is a drug that can dissolve these but he should see his cardiologist immediately

From what I have read shortness of breath is common. Now the extent of the shortness of breath will vary with each patient so I would DEFINATELY get him checked out just to be safe. Also it says (see sources):

Cardiac Surgery Discharge Concerns... Shortness of breath NOT relieved by rest - CALL YOUR LOCAL DOCTOR.

my mom had a triple bypass surgery and 2 angioplasties in the last 10 years and she never had shortness of breath especially if it was just 2 weeks ago. you should breathe better since there are more wider passage ways to and from your heart
