Yes--it's yummy--if you are vegetarian it is a great alternative because they have tons of vegetarian entrees...many people in India are vegetarians--so they know how to spice and season the veggies to give them a lot of taste and variety--there are many varieties of Indian food as well--most of the restaurants have North indian food which is food from only one region of india--the restaurnats also tend to heap on spices and heavy creams that are not usually used in homemade cooking--there is also South Indian food and Gujarati food--and many other kinds--I've seen some south indian restaurants and only a few Gujarati places--but again--you will find a huge variety of vegetarian foods prepared in ways you could never imagine..explore...If you eat meat you can get a lot of spicy recipes to change up the way you normally eat meat...Homemade indian food usually includes eating more rotis/rotlis--unleavened wheat bread rather than nans (the leavened white flour stuff in restaurants)--and is usually higher in fiber, etc...so healthier overall...they make it in restaurants if you ask for it...
If you cannot handle too many spices always ask for light on the spices...because red and green chilis are usually a part of any masala spice preparation that they add in the recipes...You can always ask for lasis--the yogurt drinks to go with your meals--not just becasue they taste good but because they will help your stomach deal with the spices-- (people in Indian usually eat yogurt with all of their meals for this very reason)
That said--it's great to get into cuisines from different cultures--you expand your food choices that way...Good Luck

I love indian food but the cookbook I recently bought requires a lot of butter or ghee in most of the dishes. I'm not sure if that is because the author herself (overweight from her photo) has modified the recipes or if that is the traditional way to prepare those dishes. Because of a medical condition I have had to cut the fats and oils in my diet. So now I need to do a little more research before I return to another indian restaurant.

I admire India and Indian culture, but I could never eat Indian food. The smell of curry really turns my stomach. Isn't that terrible?

I like Indian food, but unfortunately it does not like me. It repeats and give me the runs, so I have to go very careful what I eat. I can just about manage Korma or light Tandoori Chicken and boiled rice with poppadoms.

i wouldn't go to an indian food restaurant but I make my own curried gound turkey. If you were interested in certain types of food, but afraid to try it, I'd say research it first. Look it up on the web.
Fyi..curry is a pretty strong and acquired taste
