Am 26 years old and over a week ago i got a very mild cold but my chest has been hurting and feeling painfully tight. It got worse and worse and i went to the doctors and the doctor did a ECG which was fast (probably cos my chest was so tight) and my peak flow was only 250! My breathing seems to get worse when i do any exercise like walking more than a few minutes. When i rest lots it can feel nearly normal. I've never had any problem like this before but i often get ill. The doctor sent me for a chest xray and blood tests which am waiting back on. He told me to go back today if it hadnt gone which i did but he was off and i saw another doctor who i've never seen and he hardly checked me out and i could tell he wasnt really bothered and he made a remark about "it must be stress" but i dont have any stress as my lifes better now than it ever has been. Am slightly over weight but am fit and i do work out and normally do lots of walking.
Would welcome any ideas or advice?

Sounds like pneumonia, and the heart issues are probably stemming from the stress of feeling sick. Another option would be asthma, but from the sounds of it would be pneumonia.. You really need to get those xray tests back.

Since you didn't mention about your social life, I cannot say even a probable nursing diagnosis about what you are feeling right now, and since you said you already consulted a doctor and undergone laboratory tests, my best advice to you is to go back to your doctor and wait for what he will say. If you are prescribed medicines, Take them as instructed and be sure to finish the medications even if you are already feeling better.

What I can recommend right now is to take alot of Vitamin C and drink more fluids. Do some deep breathing too. Vitamin C will rise your immune system, fluids will help you decongest, and deep breathing will expand your lungs to have a good oxygen - carbon dioxide exchange.

I hope that you learned from my humble answer. Good day and good health.

I would call my MD and absolutely insist in being seen. At 26 y/o your peak flow should be over 550. With your family history of asthma a pulmonary function test should be at the top of the list of things ordered. If your MD is unavailable go to one that you know will listen, one that is recommended by a family member or friend. As to the doctor that didn't pay attention to you and told you that it must be stress, do what I did. Send him a bill for $150.00. That's about what your wasted time was worth and call your insurance company about him and his lack of abilities. Not to mention your state liscensing board. His lack of concern and insensitivity, along with his crummy bedside manner should be reported. I wish you luck.

You might have bronchitis or the start of pneumonia . Also make sure your not allergic to anything. It might be cigarette smoke/dry air. Whenever I'm in dry air and/or cigarette smoke, I feel that way. Keep exercising though but only a little bit everyday, drink plenty of water also to stay hydrated! Even a little extra weight taken off like ten pounds makes a lot of difference to some people (like me for instance) But just make sure you keep seeing the doctor and try not to worry. I'm sure you will be fine. God bless

any numbness in your limbs>
are you weak all over?
do you run a fever>
do you wake up in the night sweating?
can you inhale completely?
describe the pressure.
how often does this happen?

your so called doctor should have done a ekg to check your heart.
at least he did do a chest xray.
you do need another doctor./one you can rely on.

Sounds like walking pneumonia, but I am no doctor. I recommend you hit the ER if you are having chest pains
and or difficulty breathing.
