I agree that it smells (although I won't go as far as saying that it smells bad). I have to turn on the vent in the kitchen and have a vent fan on the window when i cook because i don't like the cooking smells to linger.

But I do enjoy the food no matter how strong it smells because like somebody mentioned, they are the food smells i grew up with. So the smells are a matter of perception.

For the most part, when I have visitors who do not specifically ask for filipino food, I cook regular italian and american dishes of which smells don't stick to the walls quite as much.

Let's forget all the insults and jabs. The Philippines has been declared by the UN as the "World's most disaster prone country.' Which means that natural calamities, especially typhoons, floods, landslides, droughts etc are very common. Hence, Filipinos depend upon whatever is available easily for food and that includes rice and its derivatives such as vinegar and seafood, since the country has over 7,000 islands - with a vast coastline. The Philippines also does not have any significant plantations of spices and other herbs that are used to give that "pep" to food and enhance its flavor. Cooking styles are also adapted to be as simple as possible and consuming the least possible time since Filipinos mainly worked as farmers or fishermen, while living in conditions where disasters can strike anytime. Filipino food also consists of a lot of preserves and preservatives, especially vinegar. The fish and vinegar accounts for the bad smell. Recipes from Filipino cuisine that do not include these two ingredients- do not have any "odor."

That's closed-mindedness on your end. What you might consider offensive- smelling or -looking food to you may be a delicacy in other culture. Why don't you actually try the food for yourself. You might actually find out that the food tastes good.

I hope you arent procreating the world..I gather you are white bread minced beef and beer type of "gentlemen" that have not been exposed to anything outside of the trailer door.

when you grow up eating it, it doesn't smell bad. i can guarantee you that what you call food that smells bad smells appetizing, if not delicious, to them. only a fool judges the entire world by their own personal standards.

It doesn't smell bad to them; anyone who asks questions like this is ethnocentric and should really study ethnicity. You might be interested by the study.
