I drink tea, either hot or iced several times per week. I don't use sugar in either type. It has zero impact on my blood sugar.

You have to drink unsweetened tea, if you drink sweetened tea, you have to incorporate the sugar that is in the tea into your carbohydrate count for the day, or for the meal that you are drinking the tea with. You might want to discuss this with your doctor. I make a gallon of Cold Brew Tea and I use 24 sweet and low packets in this, and this has no effect on the blood sugar levels. Hope this helps.

The overall evidence is that green tea helps diabetes, but it is far from conclusive.

Study 1

Richard Anderson of BHNRC found that brewed tea, when added to the fat cells of laboratory rats, raises insulin activity by more than 15 times.

This higher insulin activity was found with green, wulong and black tea, regardless of whether caffeinated or decaffeinated.

Study 2

A study conducted by Beltsville Human Nutrition Research Center found that brewed tea, when added to the fat cells of laboratory rats, increases insulin activities by more than 15 times.

But green tea also contains caffeine, which may increase the blood sugar level.

Further details can be found in the two links below.

If you must, drink tea cautiously. Hope it helps.

How much tea and what kind? I am a diabetic and drink tea sometimes and it doesn't seem to negatively effect my blood sugar.

Green tea and herbal teas are great for diabetics! And if ya like it sweet, put in some STEVIA. You can get it in bulk at any good herb store. I use herbalcom.com.

Teas with caffeine constrict blood vessels, so are not good for diabetics.

Best of luck.

The carbs slightly increase my blood sugar but not dramatically (unless sugar is added). I'm type I. I drink green tea.

Yes, as long as you count in the milk you add to it, if your drink lots of it. And yes it's okay as long as you don't add sugar to it.
